Accordion in modern rock music?

Hello, fellow accordionists!
I was wondering if you guys know any new rock or pop artists that incorporate the accordion into their music?

Something like They Might Be Giants but younger. Im just curious if there are any young acts out there. Do kids these days even know what an accordion is?! :D

I came across this odd Swedish rock band, never heard of them before but sound promising enough.

Gogol Bordello and Flogging Molly are the only ones I can think of, though not exactly that young anymore, but there are a few others I'm sure..

Wintergaten and Haiku Salut are a couple of interesting youngish bands though not rock..

Cool--Sounds similar to the accordion on Paul Simons Graceland album.
 
Beirut is an American band from Santa Fe who have toured in the UK. They are more trumpet focused but also use accordion. It is most prominent on the track Mount Wroclai

Trying to compete for volume in a basement against electric guitars is a fantasy in feedback. the accordion player often can not even hear themselves. Even in profesional venues I have heard gogol Bordello twice in different venues and I could not hear the accordion either time. you can buy a decent electric guitar for 150 bucks and a solid state amp for another say 300 bucks - steep for most families I know but doable - now price a used Roloand - most teenagers are out of the game before it even starts.
 
Accordion in rock music = my favourite. Will weigh in on this topic when I find some time!
 
Don't know about how modern our music is. I use an accordion in a swing / rock a billiy sort of original band that also that will do covers. Have lots of fun using a box with 2 and 3 reed muset. Use it a lot like a hammon. I use a bass amp with a couple of tweeters in the box. Gives me that low punch that a gutiar won't. My big probelm is with feed back. Still we get a lot of looks. Most people say never thought it would work but it does. Don't know why more people don' try it. Keep posting I like the ideas.

Believe or not, Ive actually seen Wintergatan live!
I have to check out Haiku Salut as well.
 
Anyone know good folk punk? I only know The Pogues and 44 Leningrad (and of course the obvious ones like Flogging Molly and Dropkicks etc). Blood or Whiskey are another band but they dont use accordion. If you havent heard 44 Leningrad, listen!

 
Not being an expert in modern rock music, I asked the kids (now 37 and 39). This was their suggestion :-
Charlie Marshall should get in touch with them and sell some bellows seal. These boys are fit.

Accordions feature in some tracks, but even where they don't it's worth a listen.
 
Kids these days are less prejudiced against the accordion than old-fogies from my generation or earlier. Generally they think its cool because its somewhat unusual.

The Decemberists occasionally reach rock band energy levels, though Jenny Conlee then usually plays Hammond. They did have a #1 album with accordion, as has Kongos and Weird Al for the first time. When was the last time you could name three recent #1 Billboard accordion albums? This accordion thing must really be catching on. Well have to keep our eye on it.

It kind of goes on and on, with bands scattered around the globe using the instrument in different ways.

Theres been a number of huge international pop hits in the last couple of years with accordion riffs thrown in too. Most are dance or electronic compositions and not what I would call regular bands that have an accordion player. Still, cool.
