We're likely looking at a 1940's to 50's student model with 2 reeds on the treble side. With only 4 rows on the bass side, one is either missing the counter bass notes or the 7th and diminished cords.
The blue celluloid, model of bellows strap and case design kind of pushes it in to the 50's era. Very pretty though not of a high value.
Cute!
One of our members expressed an interest in acquiring a 48 bass similar to this on another thread.
Likely from the 1940s (original case and straps ).
I may be seeing things, but the dimple marking the "C" bass appears to be in the second row back from the bellows, suggesting the first row is counter basses, so: counterbass, fundamental bass, major chords, minor chord rows. No 7th or 7th diminished chords.
I'm not sufficiently savvy, but I'm sure someone will know a workaround for that!
A nice thing for a "muso", busker, street artist or circus performer!
Could be the current value may be higher than supposed at first sight, especially as New Zealand is known to be a bit short of accordions.
How does it play?
i notice this post is from New Zealand, so i want to
point out that a nice little well made accordion like
this is difficult to find in that part of the world, and
hopefully will be restored/refreshed and find it's way
into some young hands that will play the snot out of it
for years to come
Itโs a beauty! Iโd even buy and restore this baby at the right price. Too bad itโs in New Zealandโฆ..or maybeโฆ.good thing! Looks like โladies sizeโ keys.
Having spent some time searching the web for something similar, I've come to the conclusion that vintage, Italian made, 2 treble voiced, 4x12 bass layout 48 bass piano accordions are currently very thin on the ground anywhere at all and those that are available are visibly (and audibly) in rather poor condition (sigh).
For something like this, scarcity could definitely be a factor in setting price if someone wants one .
No mystery there: just count the number of little round buttons on the left hand side.
4 x 12= 48!
Regarding price,
I'd say our member Kiwi Squeezer is your man: he's local to NZ and has his eye on prices. Send him a PM!
(To access pm's, go to the envelope looking icon at the top of the page, and follow your nose.)
Essentially, the price is whatever you and a prospective buyer can agree on.
