A talented musician can make just about any instrument sound good. Unfortunately, a fantastic instrument won’t compensate for lack of musicianship.

Many folks have discovered this the hard way. Don’t ask how I know…

But a good musician can take a great instrument to it's limits and draw thigs out of it that lesser musicians could not nor could be experienced on lesser instruments... BUT (I seem to be saying this a lot lately... lol), one can get close if a good musician on a lower quality instrument is used.
