Roland FR-8XB

I highly suggest that you take a couple hours and read through the free to download PDF manual from Roland, it will have the answer to that question for you as well as the coming 50-100 questions that all new users have at the start. :)

Thanks. How do I check the sub CPU version?
I am new to the FR8X.
There is good information when you Start/Boot your 8X. The Version No. you have will show on one of the opening "screens". I believe it is the 2nd screen. It's at the bottom. The screens flash quick, but you will get it -- it may take a couple of "Start Ups".

The version nummer is 2.01.077
So to update to the latest 8X Version (2.53), Go to this Roland link:

You will need a USB cable to connect your 8X to the PC for the new firmware download. The PC "End" is a USB "C". I believe the 8X "End" of the cable is a USB "B". It's at the bottom of your 8X where all the Speaker outputs, Midi, etc. are.

I haven't done this, but I think it will work. Let me know.

Nope, the PC side will be a standard USB-A and the other side is a USB-B (standard printer cable). I bought a cable that is 6 feet long instead of the standard 2-3 foot length to make it easier to hold the accordion or lay it down further away from the computer during the times I was programming it's sounds. If that is not long enough, I also picked up a 6-foot USB-A male - USB-A female cable for another added length.

I haven't done this, but I think it will work. Let me know.
I've done it many times. The same cable is used to be able to use the PC editor JAVA application.

Edit:

In THIS VIDEO, here is how I updated my FR-8X piano accordion to the 2.50.103 version. There is one more update after that but the process to update that was identical and I did not capture that process to video like this one..

Where do you find the CPU files for downloading

When you look at the video, you will see they are in the same ZIP file. I did not need to upgrade the CPU file it is done as part of the update process (please watch the video I linked to).
