Hello,
I know nothing about accordions and I'm not a player! However, I was given this and I'm looking to get help identifying it. I have not found many others online that look like this.
Thanks!
-Jon

Hi JB and welcome!🙂
I'm sorry but I can't help you either.
I was just wondering if anyone here knows the meaning of the symbol on both of the coupler switches second to last from each end of the row?🤔

it expanded for me..

mute on.. mute off.. so a cheap sordino of some type

it is nevertheless only a simple 2 reed LM box disguised
to look much more valuable than it actually was so purely
targeted at the accordion school market of olden times,
with the added "bonus" of tricking parents into
thinking this one won't be so annoyingly loud

for the new owner, hey it's pretty and in one piece and
looking good and you got it for the right price !
give it a squeeze and have a bit of fun

this looks like a typical import through General, who was
a consortium of Italian factories that collectively marketed
as mostly re-branded instruments to the USA accordion
schools of the 50's 60's,, this was an initial "step-up"
model from the introductory 12 bass rental accordion.

Universal was more of a "jobber" and had a US factory
of sorts and a full line of instruments from beginner
through professional.. they may have dealt directly
with one of the factories in the consortium, bypassing
General, but having a shared "look" for the lower priced stuff

probably
it could be
Mute off M L LM L M Mute on
almost always the first reedselection is L
that they reversed the "normal" marking just means it is
older than it looks when markings were whimsey

...when markings were whimsey
Yes, unusual!
Thanks!👍🙂
Could they be "Silent" (Silenzio)?🤔
The sign looks like an exaggerated "S".
JB, what happens when you engage either of the second to last coupler switches in the row? Does it turn off the treble notes?🤔

yeah sorry you can't get a closeup

it's just a big fat upside down 1/8th note that has a hollow center
on the top line of a 4 stave staff, same on both the 2nd and 6th shift

the 3rd and 5th shifts the same note is right side up, but half the size
the center shift has 2 notes on the staff

the white ebay box is the same

so a simple honest 2/4 reed 2 or 3 shift box sold by studio a
for $249 in 24 easy payments or $229 cash would lose some sales
to the guy across town or mail order selling this one for $299
even though it is the same box just with 5 dollars worth of extra shifts,
some felt on a spring, and exaggerated artwork b'cus it looks like
a 3 reed higher grade model
