Hello there. Ive been lurking a bit since I joined as was waiting to get my accordion and getting started before posting.
I first received an accordion as a gift about 24 years ago...a dud Hohner Atlantic III Special which needed more work than was worth it. I still have it...its green with mould and the metal is covered in what I would optimistically call pattina. I couldnt bear to get rid...and it gets a sad airing now and again... but everything plays at once. Just beyond repair.
I have always wanted to play, but due to studying Piano and Double Bass, it was always on a back burner. This back burner being a wee niggling nagging burble that has frequented my thoughts repeatedly ever since. All the bands I listen to feature accordions...Gogol Bordello, They Might Be Giants, Alabama 3 and many more...as well as the classic, wet musette sound of Jimmy Shand and the cleaner tuned tones of Frankie Yankovic. On my Spotify last year, Weird Al was my most listened to artist (first time Ive really gotten into him - love his accordion playing).
I guess what Im really trying to say is that I LOVE the Accordion and have finally sourced an instrument which has turned out to be an early Christmas and birthday present for the next two or so years!
Its a Sonola Polka King Accordion made just before or after Sonola themselves got bought out by Guerrini...sometime in the eighties oh well, I dont know. I sourced a teacher (former Scottish Champion!) as I really want to make the best effort in learning correctly and have had 2 lessons of which I enjoyed immensely. I cant put the accordion down much to my Fiancee and my dogs disappointment and am currently awaiting for my book of Christmas Accordion Hits to arrive.
Anyway....thats me. I have had sugar and caffeine, so I apologise for being excitable. Hello and nice to meet you.
I love my sparkles btw, but I worry its not very manly.
