Anyone here who have tried a Goldem cup accordion?
I tried one today at a music store but dissliked it.
My own accordion is much cheaper and easier to play. Why wouod anyone buy a Golden cup?

Much cheaper when new? Unlikely. Golden Cup is not exactly a brand renowned for high pricing. Or quality. Though its been around quite some time and most of the cheap producers do get better over time. Your instrument, in contrast, likely was used. The used instrument market is pretty large these days as most people would rather play with a smartphone than an accordion but its not inexhaustible either: I heard that Argentina has been considering declaring the once mass-produced and mass-imported Alfred Arnold German bandonions a national treasure in order to stop the drain into other countries.

New instruments as opposed to used ones can be ordered. You get them for a defined price at a mostly defined point of time. Sometimes that is important enough for people to pay the respective cost. In money. Or quality.

I dont know how much better they have become since then. But after watching that video it is clear to me that in any case you certainly do not want an older, used Golden Cup. 9 years ago they were absolute complete rubbish. Maybe now they are just plain rubbish.
I have seen Chinese accordions that are less rubbish than this. Some even sound ok. What I did notice is that especially the newer brands make PAs that require quite a bit more force on the black keys than on the white keys. That is not pleasant when playing. (They probably use just one strength of springs for all keys.)

Paul's youtube video has convinced me not to buy a Golden Cup, as they certainly appear to be shoddily built.

As for other Chinese made instruments, I believe there are good ones to be had. I own two German accordions, and very nice they are, but I also own a Chanson. The Chanson gets more outings than the other two, as it seems more appropriate for outdoor and folk club environments.

I quite like the look of Black Diamond Accordions, and I don't think Pearl River Accordions are too bad. My Chanson plays well enough for most occasions. (even if I don't) and I enjoy playing it.

Anyway, I won't be buying a Golden Cup, as it would be foolish to fly in the face of verifiable evidence. I would be tempted to buy a Pearl River, however, as I have heard some good things about them.
