Dear Accordionists,

I have a general "how do I..."question that goes like this:

How do I best put my recordings on-line for others to listen to and give feedback?
I already see many people use Youtube but somehow I think this is overkill unless you want see yourself (in my case not really).
My wife says I look demented as I play and I tend to believe her (staring eyes due to the total concentration).
Thus what other fora are there to host musical excerpts and snippets etc?
Look forward to some tips on this.
Later I'll be asking how to make a half decent recording of an accordion.

Is Soundcloud something you have to pay for?
Youtube uses adverts fir funding. What's the catch with soundcloud?

With Soundcloud, you pay if you want more than two hours of music to be stored. I think you can also pay to have your content promoted. So that's where they get their money as I understand it.

Soundcloud is a nice fairly neutral way of putting recordings out into public accessibility, especially if you are just looking for a bit of observation,feedback,encouragement.....and you can then take 'em off once they have done their job....it's free ....for the basic ,but that is probably all you/we need at the minute......when it's a more civilized time of the morning ( nearly 2 a.m and a few beers ) I will opffer some other advice re- posting and recording....or even recording and then posting !

Thanks Matt and Jarvo,

I'll definately get myself an account. 2 hours seems pretty reasonable for free.
As for hanging around this forum at 2pm after a few beers remember. ..... a glass of beer spilled into your accordion will require a few posting under the accordion repair section.

As a man you should never spill beer (indeed any alcohol)... its an innate skill. You see inebriiated blokes swaying backwards and forwards.. but the beer is still perfectly level.

I think it is called alcohol abuse

I use youtube because I'm technologically not very smart. My camera records a video, I have a video, I upload the video. But you are right, I don't want my double chin in all my recordings - I will figure something out to record audio :D

I should have said, You Tube gets a lot more views. Either that or it's just that my tracks get less views than other peoples, which is very possible. Video also has an educational side as you can look at people's technique etc.. On Soundcloud you get porn sites trying to follow you (but they get removed by moderators) (or maybe I have a fan base in that industry), on You Tube you occasionally get strange people insulting you.

However I am not a very visual person (in my preferences or to look at!) so I have no desire to get into making films of myself and no particular interest in looking at a film of an accordion for 3 minutes (love the music that goes with it). And with the chaotic life I lead the smaller memory needed by audio files helps me to record and upload when I may not be able to get onto a proper computer.

Still, much as I like audio, if you want to reach the world or get people to come onto the forum I think You Tube picks up more people.
