Bass buttons jammed?

Unfortunately the funs over because the assembly has become loose again :( I took it apart again and it seems the clip, which was the original problem, is simply way too loose and even if I put it back it will just unfasten again. Looks like I will need a repairman. Or a new accordion!

Unless anyone knows how I can make sure steady the clips!? I'm not feeling too confident this time, it's pretty loose...

Hi Aaron
Compared to the bass buttons, the clip is likely to be a piece of cake.
Let's start at the beginning again with a couple of photos please.
Garth

Hope this is clear enough

Hi Aaron,
My first thoughts are to use your new pliers and bend the clip to give a more positive grip. But before doing this, have a look at the pivot or hinge point. If there is unwanted slackness in this area then this must be addressed first.
One thing in your favour just now is that you have two clips (i.e. one at each side) and with close examination you may be able to spot minute differences showing what must be corrected.
You have a good audience of professionals and amateurs following this thread - Hang back a wee bittie and see what other suggestions are coming - We are not going away.

Hi Garth

I re-inserted the assembly before I saw your post (so much quicker this time!). As it stands it is beside me, fastened with both clips, with the plate off. Before I put the plate back on, I want to make sure that the clip doesn't unfasten. Here's what it looks like. To be honest I'm kind of tempted to just lob some super glue on it but I have a feeling that this wouldn't be a good idea.

Hi Aaron,
I still think a wee bend to the aluminium clip looks the most likely but I would hold off until the pros give their advice.
One thing all the accordion repair men seem to agree on is that <SIZE size="150">super glue and accordions don't mix
Congratulations for assembling it so quickly - How long did that take?
Garth

About 40 minutes! I hope there's a way of solidifying the grip because I don't want to have to take it apart again, even though I can re-assemble it a lot quicker now it is still a bit of a head-wrecking ordeal...

Whatever you do -DO NOT USE SUPER GLUE - the clip will bend to provide a better grip.

OK Aaron, You have now slept on it and are ready for battle.
<SIZE size="150">The objective is to reshape the clip without reshaping the accordion.
Use your pliers to grip the upstand part of the clip (i.e. the moving part) then press down on the free end of the same part until it bends down just past the right angle that it is probably at just now.
Job done, without putting any strain on the framework.
We await your report.
Garth

Aaron, just take a few photos and fasten with loads of scotch tape until someone comes up with a positive solution, you need someone to photo and post a similar catch so that the difference can be spotted

Well I bent it a little bit but not too much because it really did not seem tough enough to stay in place, but either way the assembly hasn't loosened again since so hopefully that will be the end of it.

Though like I said earlier, some of the buttons are still a bit sunk, not unplayable, just a bit lower than others. It's generally fine but I do notice I'm hitting the buttons beside them more often as a result.

This, I'm not really sure how to approach... Someone mentioned thin bit of wire to pull them up a bit?

Hi Aaron
The way I read it, you have at least one piston which is slightly bent and causing drag. This fault could affect some neighbouring pistons and thus makes it look like a bigger job than it actually is.
In this instance it is more difficult for us to help because diagnosing this problem usually relies on feel more than sight.
Photos showing the angle the bass button(s) is lying at would be beneficial, as would photos of the opposite end of the pistons.
Garth

OK, I have found what I needed at the following link.

Im repairing a Stella Worldmaster 32 and need to rework the bass buttons. Before I get totally lost Im looking for a layout/mapping for the 32 buttons.
I have already a 120 button layout but it seems to not relate directly to the 32.
Can some one point me to an exact 32 template or suggest if the 120 can be interpreted appropriately for the task.

Thanks very much
A

That sounds like it might be a more complicated question than my interpretation/answer: Common configuration 32-bass; 8x4 - Knee, inner row: Eb,Bb,F,C,G,D,A,E Chin; Column: Root, Major, minor, 7th.
No counter bass, no dims.
If that doesn't help try starting a dedicated thread, it'll get more exposure.

Thanks to Jim D and soulsaver for their input.
The Stella is now repaired and functional although it will sound better in the hands of someone competent.

Hello everyone. Pains me to ressurect this thread but I'm left with no choice. So my accordion was lost for 5 weeks. I had organised for it to be shipped from France back home to Ireland things went awry. Anyways, it's back now. But on it's journey home it must've taken a few knocks. I was so happy to finally get it back, and 30 seconds into playing it after not having played for 5 weeks, the bass assembly loosened :(

I dissassembled it and went through the whole rigmarole of slotting the rods back. It's much easier this time, though no less frustrating! Anyways, once I've gotten all the pistons back into place, the clips on the side don't seem to be working. I am able to clip it on one side, but not the other. I can't seem to fit it into a place where it just feels natural and easy. The first time I did this, back in November, it instantly fell back into place and I was able to clip them no bother. But now it's proving very difficult. I managed it once yesterday, and I got to play for about 10 minutes before the assembly loosened again and since then I've been stuck.

Any ideas anyone? I've arranged to bring it to the local repairman on Thursday but I'd prefer to fix it myself since I'm really tight on money. Here are some pictures.

Ok, I've actually managed to fasten both clips multiple times. It just takes some fiddling and precarious positioning. It doesn't slot in as easy as it did last time but at least it does anyways.

The problem is though, in fact the root of all this, is that the clip on the left hand side (if youre looking at the pictures) keeps loosening. I can play for about 5 minutes before it breaks open again. I was meant to bring it in tomorrow to the repairman but if it's something I can do myself I happily will. I'm toying with the idea of using a metal-on-metal glue, but that doesn't feel like a good idea... Though I am getting a new accordion within the next few months so as long as it does the job I don't really mind!?

Any ideas?

Hot glue... holds well on grease free cleaned/roughed metal and is easy to take off if needed, without leaving any residue, perhaps?

Hi Aaron
Does the left hand one look as if it is folded more than 90 degrees? It will need to be if it is to stay in place.
How does it compare with the right hand clip?
Garth
p.s. welcome back
