Has that list uploaded ?

Yes. It would be /will be but as I say I have an ear infection that has made the world a very quiet and painful place ! So work will resume as soon as the anti-biotics kick in ..........

I had actually intended to go along and keep the faith....have to be next month now.....good spot Knobby.

No worries. I'll pass it on to Matt to add to his list.

two definitely active clubs are the stockport accordion club anad the Leyland acc club both with good websites of interest to people elsewhere.

There is a wide range of box and fiddle clubs throughout Scotland I think http://www.boxanadfiddle.com ( or maybe co.uk) will lead to them. Again of wider than local interest.

Yes George, the Barnsley and the Leyland Club are active and doing well.....however their pages are full of broken links to what can only be possibly redundant clubs.....it is a bit of a minefield.......and as Knobby pointed out I neglected to write up me closest one doh! :hb

I am in kent in gillingham and the only club I could find was past canterbury which is an hours travel ,if there are any players near me who want to form a club please let me know

I found this:

"Bromley Accordion Club

Meet on the second Tuesday of each month at Trinity United Reform Church, Freelands Road, Bromley, Kent, Telephone 0181 467 3454"

No idea if it's still going.

I've been to the north Staffs beginners night (every Monday) a couple of times. I was the youngest there (in my 50's), but everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Strange to play with other people, very different to playing alone - I cant keep stopping and putting my mistakes right :)
They also have a band night every Tuesday that I've been told I would be welcome at too.
My only real problem with going is that, with working different shifts at a hospital, I'm never guaranteed the same evening off, so can only go a couple of times a month. Would like to attend both Mondays and Tuesdays when I get the time off, but its an hours travel so a bit much really.
Would recommend to anyone though - very friendly.

Playing with other people is the best way of developing playing skills irrespective of genre. It is not as scary as some people imagine as it is often possible to play along with others , dropping in anad out during a tune i.e plaay the bits you can and dont worry about the bits you cant!

Some accordion clubs have a beginners night or maybe an hour at the beginning of the evening and nobody is put on the spot.

Another , perhaps more plentiful opportunity to play with others is at folk festival sessions or at regular pub sessions. again you are not expected to play everything and can drop in and out as necessary... eg I will be leading two musicians sessions ( any instrument including piano boxes) at Whitby folk week 17th 24 Aug see http://www.whitbyfolk.co.uk . These are programmed as well known tunes at a steady pace and whilst not being suitable for absolute beginners they are well suited to those with little or no experience of playing with others.

For those who cant pluck up the courage to go aand play with others it is usually perfectly acceptable to go along ( without a box) just to listen and enjoy and to get an idea of what is happening.

Getting a few friends together for a few tunes can also be very helpful and such ad hoc gathererngs can work well with completely different instruments.

If real human beings cant be found playing along to tape of cd can also be useful way of learning.

Now apologies for a bit of drift!----

Grannykins makes the point about not being able to stop to put mistakes right etc When playing alone it is almost instinctive to do just that and go back to the beginning and start again - you then make the same mistake in the same place and go back to the beginning - and repeat the process several times and then feell pissed off and develop the I cant play that syndome!. When playing alone DO NOT STOP fudge past the mistake and carrry on, then repeat the tune without any pause and you may get it right or may have to do a bit more fudging but at least you will have played most of the tune reasonably well and feel better for it!

Hallelujah ,George, well said, and so right... a thousand years ago I first learned this when jamming on the guitar with a youngster who was much better than me .

He said thanks for just carrying on when you make a mistake, that takes guts...and we can sort it out afterwards....

and if you do it really works ....you are so buoyed up after you have played a song through....plus you have not stopped their flow....it does work....

Does anyone know of a club in the Torquay area?

There are a few players in the South Hams, Torquay area, and Harry Hussey comes down and and sometimes plays as well. I don’t know whether there’s enough interest for a club though..

Thanks Maki - bit Liskeard is 50 miles and I would have to go through Plymouth - which would make it a s-l-o-w 50 at that so I'll pass on that one.

It looked like a fair ways out.
'Course you could always start you're own club.
Might even be fun.

You know , sometimes I think we may spoon feed each other here a bit...... :D

If there is a list of UK accordion clubs ALREADY on google...then ,erm, maybe look it up ? ! ?

There are tons of resources out there , without tying up Knobby and Pippa , Anyanka and any others who are / have helped out , guys and gals who have found and highlighted stuff...........

p.s Admin ....(and it is probably my fault and my sceptic bloody ear, which is throbbing mercilessly )...there was a list o0r a section of resources which I can no longer find .... it will be me but if anyone can point it out I would be most humbly crawly and pleasantish in your direction.......for a bit.

if you create an accordion club list add seghill accordion club northumberland cheers richie

Right, apologies everyone for keeping you waiting for this list. A bit of awkwardness that was holding me back is now resolved, but not how I expected. I went along thinking one was about to close, instead I am now the chair. I'm not quite sure how that happened. List coming soon.

 Congratulations of your post of responsibility Matt.
(you fell for that one).
