2025 Market Goals

45 pieces is a nice challenge and you should take breaks too. I always enjoy a 45min play - 15 min break... that way you need a few less songs, people know you are there and with that 45 songs, you can actually go for a longer period of time. Also don't forget to switch registrations more and instead of just playing a song 2 times make it 3 repetitions, that too gets them from 2.7in to over 3 min.

Keep us up to date how it goes!
Thanks Jerry, good ideas!

It was warmer today, but I still wore my woolen bunnet, maybe for luck…. I brought 45 songs and probably played about 35, standing for 2 hours with 10 minute break, with the stroller. No repeats, good crowd, tips. I played Au Claire de la Lune in honor of my French friends. 🙏🎵🪗

As usual, I did much better with the memorized songs. I think if I memorize 45 - 50 of the accordion industrial complex I can comfortably cover the 20 hours of this market without too much repeat. By then I will be totally sick of it and ready to go on to ?????

Week 3. Did 2 hours standing, no breaks, no repeats. Mostly by memory. Pretty sure I’ll be able to ditch the sheet music book soon. Anyway, I bought an android tablet. Looking for a sheet music app that will have buttons for forward, backwards and random for the next song. Be cool to do the whole set in random order.

More people this week and significantly more tips this year. Probably not because I played so much better….😉. The tourists seem to have “discovered” the market this year. I like it because it is chill. But I had people who came to hear me, and sitting at the tables listening which was pretty cool, even one guy brought me a beer!

being able to feel their appreciation in the fact they
hung out with you, they decided to listen for awhile,
not just in passing, maybe even came from home
because you are part of the reason to come to the market

accepting a beer or even a snack if they offer to share
their picnic.. those kinds of "tips" even i consider acceptable

random ?
on the one hand, for an audience often the sequence of songs
needs to be deliberate as you build something.. but in some
circumstances YES it is fun to put the playback software into
jukebox/random mode and let it challenge the brain...
using MIDI/audiotrack backgrounds, the first few notes are all
i get to react with..
name that tune !
very satisfying to secretly challenge yourself in a situation
where you cannot fail ! but only you know that the next song
is gonna be a surprise to you as well as them
sure we have them memorized so the deck is stacked in our favor,
but it's just fun to go random sometime

"Random for the next song" does not give you "whole set in random order". You need "random from songs I did not play today yet".

yes, that's an important point musically that true random
or law of averages is not what you want in a setlist

jukebox type software usually depletes a pre-defined
group of songs in the order intended OR random (if allowed)
or alphabetical is often a choice too

Thanks guys! Yeah, I meant random without repeat from a given list of the songs I have the sheets for and can play (like in a flashcards app). But I agree that there is definitely utility in arranging the songs in an order that “tells a story.” I’ll report back when I have done some research….

My old gigger of a music teacher said when you practice your memorized songs don't play them in the same order ! play them in a random order to see if you really remember the tunes !! . When i was gigging myself , Sometimes I had a set list . but very really kept to a strict set list , it depended on the interaction with the live audience I was having and their response to the tunes I was playing and ab -lib from there !!
Some lovely old guy in the Audience with a strong Irish accent shouted out You've not played any Irish tunes thats what I like .
So straight off preplanned set list into play Irish tunes as a request !! ...................it went a storm !!
He came up to chat at the end and said I had made his day ..and it brought back to him many happy memories ....of the good old days long ago .............he was so happy and smiling !!
it also made my day as well .it could be called player satisfaction !!
Life is never dull performing Live !!..............................
