Has anyone else had problems with insuring accordions with carriers, they encourage you to buy insurance, then when you have placed the order they email you to say they are looking into your order , then after you have despatched the Item they send another email to say they cannot insure accordions, even though in terms and conditions musical instruments are not prohibited.
They do not refund the payment and do not reply to emails. There is no telephone number to ring.
Seems deliberately dishonest to me, but I cannot find a way round it.

If you paid by credit card, you could click on 'query the transaction' on the card account. That usually results in a refund from the card company and they will investigate for you. The card company will send you an online form to state your problem..in this case your grievance is that you were over charged for the insurance which wasn't supplied. The card company then do all the leg work to recover your money.
My recent dealings weren't quite the same circumstances but the financial side was similar...also an overcharge by UPS. I posted an accordion at the local depot which was delivered OK within the UK and the following week noticed UPS had helped themselves to another £50 from my account, allegedly for the parcel being 'overweight'. They said it was over 40kg. Obviously an accordion to challenge a trained weight lifter! Like Colin, no joy trying to contact direct to UPS but I got my £50 refund from Barclaycard and no appeal from UPS.

Lessons can cost money. You've just had one. My sympathies!?
Much the same can happen regarding "extended warranty " on car purchases ?
They all want your premium, but just try to collect!

Unfortunately i paid with paypal, don.t think they will be so helpful but i will try, for me this has happened twice now and it seems to be that the parcel companies are linked with parcel 2 go and their terms

When i look at the separate emails i received, one from DPD and one from Parcelforce referring to different consignments, they are identical except one is red the other is blue.
Both with the logo parcel2go at the bottom.
Thanking me for getting in touch and giving me a case reference, and saying they aim to get back in 24 hours, i never got in touch with either of them apart from booking the delivery and insurance.
There must be something unfair and even dishonest about this

The case looks a bit more convoluted than at first glance; unfortunately Dingo40 may be right and as an expedience to save further frustration it may be a write off as an expensive lesson. However personally I'm usually of a "dog at a bone"mentality when there is wanton disregard for the little man by fat corporations! I presume Paypal took your money, their subsidiary parcel2go was the agent who placed with job twice with different carriers and someone charged for unavailable insurance. Maybe the carrier who did the job was the one who didn't do insurance whereas the other on e did...?cross wires. Paypal indicate in their publicity that they could act as arbiters, especially a sentiment in their earlier days 'holding' the money on conclusion of eBay auctions. I have never tested the Paypal grievance handling but think they should take some responsibility as part of the thread. Just had a look on my own Paypal account and against each transaction I did there is an option to "report a problem" and also under their "help" category there is "go to resolution centre". At this stage, if you want to keep going with the unequal struggle against big brother, it may be worth seeing if the credentials of Paypal will shake the cage for you. Good luck!

I remember, some time ago, the Royal mail/Parcel Force small print where they said that Musical instruments are not insured, it may have changed but it's worth checking if you use them.

In both cases i cannot find any reference to musical instruments being excluded, and in both cases they recommended I take out insurance and have taken my payment, approx £100 each

And they were informed it was an accordion

Hermes for sure have musical instruments listed on the uninsured list...
Paypal pretty good with payback if dud deal... However dont open a dispute on fleabay at same time as then voids PayPal claim...
Insurance is in the bubble wrap double boxing in my eyes... Though Murray Grai ger of tje reed shopjust successfully sent me anaccodion andsaid was insured beyond expense.

I suspect most dealers have a different deal to ordinary people.
If ever i have to do this again i will try to contact the carrier first rather than just doing it on line. If anyone knows a carrier who will insure accordions, please let me know

I have just managed to get a refund from both companies, on both websites it was very difficult to find an email address to request the refund from.

Pleased for you Colinm. Frustrating that it's taken such a tortuous course though your persistence may be worth it. Another salutary lesson for us all! Thanks for highlighting the issue.

I had a horrific experience with dealer in France when instrument arrived a Hohner the base mechanism seized almost immediately. The dealer in the Djion area well presented photos on web pages can hide all sorts of imperfections. he then blamed the transport and why didn't I inspect the instrument while he was at the Door. After many months of stress this guy knew every trick in the book. I am sure the instrument was not fully operational on many fronts before dispatch to me.

I've used Parcel force recently and they don't insure accordions however the were no issues and my favourite accordion tuner uses them all the time.

Shipping accordions is riddled with problems. Sometimes a company will refuse to ship an accordion because it contains celluloid which is a highly flammable material. At other times even the same company may do the shipping just fine. Sometimes there will be transport damage, and then it's hard to settle a dispute between the sender who may not have used enough protection or the transport company who did not handle the container with sufficient care... So whenever you try to get an accordion shipped you take a gamble.
