Palmer Hughes

Ahhhhh- "Sharper than a serpent's tooth!!!"
Ah, I just remembered the song - I was laughing because the lyrics were soooo stupid - they were "The funny little bunny, likes carrots in his tummy, he's happy when it's sunny, but when it rains he's glummy!!!" I guess to "rhyme" with "sunny". I thought it was sooo funny that it was glummy, instead of gloomy. I was just laughing all over the place. My poor Dad, he never got anywhere with the piano after that!

I did a little Palmer Hughes, a little Sedlon. They were ok to get going. I’m of the type that the only thing that really got me going was “having” to play somewhere. As soon as I got on the accordion I wanted to play it with my band. I did. I sucked. I learned a few more songs. I sucked less. I persevered. You’ve seen my posts about “repertoire, repertoire, repertoire.” A broken record. Now I just want to learn harder, more interesting tunes. 2 hours tomorrow. Gotta polish the last few songs. Yeah right. Finally found a decent teacher with a lot of free and value priced info. $80/hour is hard though, even if deserved. More than I make playing for sure. Good luck out there everyone. I agree with Henry. You want to learn? Play!!!!!!

I can see $80/hr for a student that is maybe a strong level 6 and above, but that amount for a beginner/intermediate player... highway robbery.

Music education today is very very expensive. Anywhere you look-locally,all over the internet people are charging at least seventy American dollars now-and it doesn’t matter what your level is. I see teachers in Europe, one who according to his video was by no means a master-charging about 130.00 U.S. an hour and he has three students. The days of paying ten dollars to the local piano teacher just doesn’t exist anymore. How a parent with numerous kids put their children into a private music education is beyond me and they’re cutting music education in the public schools. Like so many of the arts now-you have to be well-off to participate . What that poster originally mentioned-that’s the going rate- even if you’re an absolute beginner. Anyone who teaches via zoom-and that’s pretty much where all of the teaching is done now-charges that and more. The world and music education is just not the same as when I was young. I’m retired after working for forty years and I can barely afford weekly lessons. I stopped lessons after three years of studying with a master,he was charging seventy an hour and I barely play at a level four level. If I want to study,I need to study online-and even there the costs are very high depending where the teacher lives.Anyone outside the former Soviet Union charges seventy, eighty and more.
