I've been researching and cosmetic surgery is relatively cheap in Turkey at the moment...
I am considering a 'finger reduction' in my left hand to shorten my digits by 2 or 3 millimeters to soften my the playing of my bass notes ...
Any suggestions....

All and any surgery carries a risk of infection.
The benefits must be weighed against the risks.
Too often we hear of undesirable outcomes arising as a consequence of dodgy practices even in first world countries.
A few years ago I had a sebaceous cyst removed in the middle of my back as it was gradually growing larger with time: at this point It was about as big as the tip of my middle finger and growing.
The highly qualified, recommended and experienced surgeon agreed to remove it as part of my upcoming double inguinal hernia repair surgery.

Yes, he was an excellent surgeon... at inguinal hernia repair... no complaints there.
However, for some reason, not so much with sebaceous cyst removal.
The wound became infected....took months to heal (with frequent visits to my GP) and now, in my beachwear, I look like a Purple Heart recipient, no kidding!
Beware what you wish for!

I see it as a natural progression....the anabolic steroids have worked wonders for my bellows bicep but alas the amphetamines have kinda left me with 'dizzy fingers'....

A few years ago I had a sebaceous cyst removed in the middle of my back as it was gradually growing larger with time: at this point It was about as big as the tip of my middle finger and growing.

I had one in the same location the size of a grape. A surgeon removed it under a local anaesthetic and whooped with joy as she got it out whole and popped it into a jar to show her colleagues. Most disconcerting, I don't want to be medically remarkable, just ordinary. I knew things were a bit strange when the first thing she said to me on arrival was "Abba or Meat Loaf?" (for the stereo in the operating room).

I’d have to go with Viola, opting to become synonymous with the instrument or the flower, the operational reduction not being appealing to yours truly.

Terry, I hope you are kidding, yes?
Besides the fact that there is a risk of serious damage like loosing feeling in fingertips, infection, etc... "softening the touch" is not a function of finger length but of technique and unless there is some serious physical situation, that technique is something that can be learned in a short period of time. Soft touch is is a function of control and practice.
