Wow, sad story.Almost certainly stolen to order. The Gardai found a handful of the cheaper ones in a field a few months later.

No Irish accents in Amsterdam... lol. Besides, that one was a Gola, but not a 459. Those are rarer than hens teeth! Then he sold it to Jerry?
Yeah, just disgusting.Almost certainly stolen to order. The Gardai found a handful of the cheaper ones in a field a few months later.
I'm interested.I've stupidly taken it upon myself to make an easier to follow pre-sale catalogue which has taken a solid day. If I get it finished before the auction, I can send it to whoever is interested.
I would like to see the catalog also. Maybe post it here if it is not confidential?I've stupidly taken it upon myself to make an easier to follow pre-sale catalogue which has taken a solid day. If I get it finished before the auction, I can send it to whoever is interested.
Can do that! Was sold prior to the auction house collecting. I think it went to Sean O'Neills in Tyrone. We have seven other Sonola's however.
Have one. Unfortunately, it's not in good condition.
Is there anyone out there that could run their eye over the entire list and maybe highlight some we should be paying attention to? We reached out to Rob Howard but he's yet to respond.
80% of these accordions to say the least, are in a bad state, and the auction houses usually have no clue about accordions....plus the proces of buying is not good at all, basically you don't know what you are going to get,but once you won, you have to pay regardless...lets not forget how difficult and expensive it is to repair an accordion and to tune it.I ve seen some pictures here on the group with strong evidence of mould which is the worst thing for accordions. Also they have no boxes, which means they covered in dust, and also makes posting impossible.. I understood they where kept on shelfs, imagine dusting 750 accordions weekly....Hello, me again! Had a meeting with the auction house today, and we're getting really close. Just finalising some details and getting someone to run their eye over the proposed catalogue, sort some marketing and we'll be good to hit the go button!
This is one room in the auction house, we ended up with a little over 750 accordions in total going to sale.

Im not trying to talk down this sale but in my opinion there should have been a detailed catalog made by Ken as he knew the condition of every instrument, and that way the potential buyer would have been able to decide on the purchase....yes i know some auction houses offer a viewing session but thats not really practical...
What i find dissapointing also, is the fact that none of the familly of this great collector haven't got a clue about accordions..ultimately that would have been a great help.
Very intriguing the fact that they sold the best accordion from the collection on facebook marketplace...
I'll take a catalog when available, too.
Will there be multiple photos included (interior, 6 sides, condition description, diatonic keys, etc?)
Any cases available? How are the reserves determined (What similar boxes have sold for on eBay?)?
What packaging can we expect on USA shipments? Insured by seller?
Thanks, Waldo
Auction houses charge within UK for postage about 350 gbp,so internationaly would be more, way more...and on top of that you will get customs charges! Good luck!
I have purchased a few times from the auctions....they use profesional couriers! Thats how much i paid for the service of packing and postingLots to unpack there. Rob Howard has had a look at the catalogue, and he's happy so we'll be instructing the auction house to go ahead.
- Have you seen the collection in person?
- We offered cases for most of the accordions but the auction house could not store them all, it would be double the size.
- Ken wasn't interested in cataloguing, he was a collector. We tried over the years to get him to do something to help us when the inevitable happened, but he choose not to. He also suffered from Parkinsons for the last 15 years so daily maintenance wasn't practical.
- Viewing is available, you just have to fly to Belfast.
- Not sure why the family not being into accordions is considered disappointing? I'm a Newcastle United fan, my family could care less about it.
- Some were sold in person. Some were advertised on Marketplace. Ken used to buy and sell on there too, with great success.
All in all, what a strange post.
Multiple photos and condition of the accordion are all on the live auction page. We're waiting confirmation that if we share that url, it won't change once the auction goes live. Would defeat the purpose of sharing it.
How could you possibly determine what the postage cost will be not knowing the size and weight of the item? FYI, I shipped an actual pallet of uniform accordions from Belfast to Glasgow for just over Β£100.
All in all, two very strange posts.
The catalogue will be available soon.
You are the son in law? As far as i know from a good source, there was a comprehensive catalogue which you lot lost itLots to unpack there. Rob Howard has had a look at the catalogue, and he's happy so we'll be instructing the auction house to go ahead.

I know accordions inside out, it s enough to see a photo to determine the overall condition, there are tell tell signs....besides any accordion sitting and gathering dust for 15 years would require major service.im not here to argue! Im talking facts.Lots to unpack there. Rob Howard has had a look at the catalogue, and he's happy so we'll be instructing the auction house to go ahead.

MATTHEW HOPKINS told me the son,the auction house is using a profesional posting company! Thats how much they charge!you seem more keen in making money then the actual son LOLLike I said, I sent a pallet of 5 accordions to Gary Blair for 1/3 of your total.
Yes, I'm Ken's son in law. There was never a catalogue. Whoever told you this is telling lies and I'd challenge them to back up their claims.
You're making assumptions. Sounds like Ken might have outbid you in the past and you have an axe to grind. Perhaps this auction won't be for you.
ANDREA?Oh, hello Andra.
Unfortunately, we couldn't withdraw the pieces you wanted from the auction but the hostility now makes sense.
Good luck in getting what you want.
