A few weeks ago I posted a Youtube of a Sonett 40 bass accordion as I really liked the sound (and the size).

Ive been looking for an accordion like this for myself and I think Ive found one. From external looks only it seems that the Sonett is maybe a Weltmeister. My guess is that its an LMM with shifts for M, LM, MM and LMM.

Here is the accordion:

Ive already read on this forum that older Weltmeisters might not be that good but I went ahead anyway and bought it. Who knows when it will arrive. And maybe Ill get lucky.

Has anyone had an experience with buying from Bulgaria? If you search eBay for 40 or 48 bass accordions most of them seem to come from Bulgaria. Whats up with that?

I hope I havent wasted my money on this. Time will tell.

Mostly Im just seeking opinions now on earlier Weltmeisters and buying on eBay from Bulgaria if anyone has done that.

Thanks!

This one is like betting on a horse running with 100 to 1 odds. I wish you luck on this one. Let us know how you make out.

For Sure Ill let you know how it all works out. If I get stung it might help others from bidding on Bulgarian accordions while drinking beer. :ch

I think I did, at least, correctly identify the Sonett accordion in the video as being an older Weltmeister.

I noticed on another thread to this forum that there are many of us looking for smaller accordions as we age. (Happy Birthday, Jim, by the way.)

And a lot of the less expensive models seem to be in Bulgaria. So....well see.

40 years ago I did bet on a horse named Frosty John with 40 to 1 odds. Yup! He won! :b Otherwise Im sure I wouldnt have remembered his name.

I bought an accordion from Bulgaria once . I had to send it back for a refund because a couple of the bass buttons were on all the time. I had to pay return postage. On top of that it got stuck in one of the countries postal system on the way back and had to keep chasing them up. I'll never buy from an Eastern block country again.
The modern Weltmeisters are much better than the older Weltmeisters. I have a Weltmester 72 bass Achat which is a good accordion.
Maybe you could give us a few horse betting tips.

I found hat most of these need work, but are pretty good after being worked over. Keep in mind that these are most likely from the 60's-70"s so the are about 40 yrs old, and will need the work that any 40 yr old instrument may need.
I get them in my shop on occasion on trade in, they sell pretty quickly once tuned and serviced, but not at ebay prices.

Thanks, Kimric, for the positive words. If I even get this box I do expect that it might need some work. Im hoping that it is OK mechanically as I dont know much about that. I have learned how to clean, re-valve and wax reeds. My work in that area is functional (I did a Hohner Tango II M) but it is NOT pretty by anyones standards.

Im just happy to hear that it might be pretty good after some work. Thanks again!
