i noticed this interesting pre-war metal grille box on Craigslist

spotted "Novara" on the bass side and having never heard of that
model or what it meant i googled it

Via Benvenuto Cellini, 28100 Novara Novara, Italy

so there is a Novara Italy, and a street named Cellini, which could
imply that at one time an accordion factory stood there and the great man
that formed the company had his street named after him
(commonplace in Italy)

romanticizing perhaps.. but never ever heard of accordions being
built in this region (the Piedmont) near Milan

eventually there WAS a Cellini in CastleFi (it was over on the backside of the hill)
and long after they ceased accordion production, remained in business as
an action and button supplier to the trade

He is the sculptor of this CRISTO that can be seen at the Monasterio de El Escorial (Madrid, Spain).

You pass the town of Novara on the train to Vercelli, and Vercelli has a great old accordion history. Ranco, Cooperfisa, and more recently Teknofisa, who built the original Bercandeons.

Makes sense to me that somewhere near Vercelli might have accordion makers. Similar to Camerano or Loreto having accordion makers due to proximity to Castelfidardo.

First of all, as Walker said, Vercelli has a strong tradition of building accordions. The first workshops were opened at the beginning of 1900. Simone Merlo, who learned to make accordions in Stradella was the first. In the next years, they reached the number of 24 workshops in Vercelli.
In 1921 "Coopè Armoniche" (cooperfisa) was founded. Then the history goes on with up and down but they are still there. I didn't find anything about Novara accordion but Novara is very close to Vercelli (less than 10 miles)...

Corinto,
Benvenuto Celini's autobiography ("My Life"(?)) is a magnificent read, full of incident and action: you can hardly put it down. I have two English translations of it and have read both.
It's better than James Bond by far!🙂
If you enjoy a read and are looking for a book, I thoroughly recommend it!🙂

lots of connections !

while i did know of Cooperativa Fisharmonica i remember
them mostly as Royal and other look-alike Dallape's and
thought they were all after WW2

cooper armoniche i didn't remember enough to think vercelli

and i never really knew where Ranco came from though i
have seen pre-war models an knew they were really famous
once upon a time

and unless he sculpted an accordion it wasn't done on Benvenuto street

thanks !
