Hi everyone,
This is my first post on the forum. I'm excited to be here!

I'm looking for recommendations for accordion pieces (or artists) that use the Stradella bass system and lean toward slow, moody, or even somber jazz, modern, or contemporary styles.

I came across an older thread on this topic, which pointed me to a beautiful piece shared by Paul that really captured what I'm after:

If you know of any other examples in this vein using Stradella, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Welcome Ronald! I would recommend you check out Arrigo Tomasi on YouTube. Has lots of sheet music, solo transcriptions and backing tracks. A variety of different jazz styles, hopefully with some you like. Good luck!

Soundtrack music can be a fruitful byway to meander along on the alert for haunting, azmopheric accordion music. I'm linking below a past thread with suggestions. Including my own comment recommending the arty tango flavored soundtrack to "Waking Life," the YTK Richard Linklater film featuring beautiful compositions, arrangements, and accordion + piano playing by one-of-a-kind artist and character Glover Gill of Texas. I used to give the "Waking Life" soundtrack CD as gifts on occasion. Lots of samples from the film on YT, as well as other wonderful stuff if you keyword his name along with "accordion," or, "Tango," or, "Tosca Tango," or, "Glovertango." Some cuts he's playing piano but there's lots of accordion as well.

There's a lot of misty, moody free-reed jazz out there. Here's Stradella PA player Pier Paolo Bertolo doing "On Green Dolphin Street" and also Miles Davis's "Four" with walking bass arrangements. Click on his channel for a few others:

This is unisonoric bandoneon, not Stradella PA, but it's so cool I had to throw it in. Chromatic bando artist Olivier Manoury did a wonderful CD about 15 years back called "Bando Monk," of Thelonius Monk arrangements on chroma bandoneon. Lovely stuff, a number of tracks are up on YT, and you can click on his channel to get other clips of Manoury playing moody, jazzy selections. He also plays tango and I love that as well.
