I haven't seen anything on this, so wanted to ask some folks about this...perhaps Jim D. is knowledgeable on this. We hear often about using what we in the U.S. call "surge protectors" on electronic appliances, like TVs, computers, and even household appliances like freezers. If the electricity supplied by your electric utility surges, the protector takes the hit, not the appliance. Though I don't yet have a Roland, I would think if one is going to use this at home, without the batteries or battery pack, it would make sense to use a protector when plugging into household current, or mains. For me, the cost of a surge protector is much cheaper than replacing the electronic components in a V accordion. Surges in power don't often happen, at least where I've lived, but it is possible even without thunderstorms, etc. Does anyone use them or think they might be helpful?

First of all the Roland AC supply units that power roland products are switching power supply's and will kick off with any surge or short. As far as using a surge protector for any electronics you have is cost effective insurance. Almost all quality brand name surge protectors are now not expensive and come with a guarantee that will replace the damage that results from their product failing to prevent current surge's from causing damage to your electronics. JIM D.

If a surge protector makes you feel more comfortable, use it. It's not expensive.

About Roland accordions: They are not powered directly by household current. Rather, the household current is converted by the power adapter. Worst case: you have to buy a new adapter, not a new accordion. My current FR1xb (and my old FR3s) is not "surge protected."

By the way, all my laptop computers in the last 18 years have been used without surge protectors. None of them has been damaged by electrical surge.

Thanks, Jim D. Guess for Rolands you don't need the surge protector. Like was mentioned above also, an adapter may be the only thing you have to buy if it gets "surged". Thanks!

You can buy surge or spike protection plugs which can be used for anything electrical, including electronic accordions. You don't need any specialist equipment bui;t into the accordion.
