I came across this instrument in the local pawn shop. I believe it is a Titano Standard. It is in good cosmetic condition, but I have yet to assess its playability. IF it is in good playable condition, what is something like this worth? I have looked at shops online to see if anyone had one as well as looking on eBay. Prices ranged from $695-S1095 USD. Those prices seem very high to me. Am I right?

Thanks,

Judith

Don,t think those prices are high, looks in good condition externally, depending on internal condition and how it sounds could be 500 to 2000 dollars, you need to check all treble notes and all bass notes, and look at the valves inside to narrow the price range.

Thanks for that. This would be the first time assessing and buying a PA. I have a check list to go through when I give it a once over. Having some notion of a reasonable price will help. I'm interested in any information that can be offered.

I just had a look at this instrument. My mistake. This is an Ideal not a Standard. It was clean, no wear on the bellows. No discernible leaks. One sticky key. Accordion, case and straps included for $350. Taxes included. I will think about it.

Hi Judith: I've been affiliated with a Titano dealer, played and repaired models of (Victoria made) Titanos for 40 years now. The box you picture here is a Ideal and not a Standard. This one is a 2 reed treble and 4 reed bass. The Standard models where 3 reed treble and 4 reed bass. Ideals were made with 15" ,16" and 17" keyboards. From your pic's I cannot tell the keyboard measure. Standards were made with 17" keyboards with 5 treble shifts and could be had with L M H reeds or L M M reeds. The Victoria firm always made and still makes exceptional quality accordions. The box you picture here is a Victoria make. Titano's today are made by Pigini and although a fine made box are not the same quality of the 60's box in your pic's.
The one you picture here has low mileage as it has not yellowed yet. In good shape it should fetch between $300 to $400 USD.

Thanks for generously sharing your knowledge, Jim D. That makes me feel more confident that I would be buying a well built instrument. It looks like a great starter for a new player and at a reasonable price. If it is still there when I go back today I will be purchasing it. With the exchange rate the price is great.

BTW- I see you are from the Commonwealth. I am originally from Western Mass.

Thank you,

Judith
