Pigini vs Bugari

The prices are so close between the Pigini 42/B and the Bugari 320/J/C both CBA converters and very close in specs.

Can anyone speak to the quality of the workmanship, components, reed quality, playability, resale value, etc. of these two accordions?

Or do you know another accordion I should be considering that is comparable in features, price and quality.

your feedback is greatly appreciated.
 
They are both top makes. Assuming you have played them both and that they both have equal effect on your desire to own and play them, then at that level you need to consider how helpful the dealer is, cost of delivery and any insurances the dealer can arrange. I think buying an accordion should be more than an Amazon book buying experience. If you have a bond with the dealer it can make the whole experience just that little extra.
 
Thank you Glenn, I agree with you. I wish i could try them out; however, I am up on the Canadian Border in the USA, New York City is at least 6 plus hours away, Montreal two hours. Even if they were in easy distance, the dealers I have talked to on the phone have given me a wait time of from 6 weeks (direct from the Bugari factory) to 3 to 4 months from dealers for the Pigini, These models, both Pigini and Bugari, and most converter models in fact, are not kept in stock, at least in the US. So i really am reduced to looking at specs, prices, peoples opinions etc online. The only feel I have to go on is my little Pigini Peter Pan which I have been playing for about two years and I really like the feel of. So any comments or observations on these two accordions or the brands would be of help. Also if anyone else has a recommendation for a 3 reed converter bass it would be helpful in my search.
 
Both are prone to being mispronounced but the Pigini only sounds like a porker, whereas the Bugari - well, you know.

For what it's worth, I love my Pigini C37 Convertor and wouldn't swap it for anything other than another Pigini (with more buttons at the top end). However, I've never played a Bugari... Having had a look at the design differences, I'd also prefer the Pidge's slightly simpler, classier style. But really the decision would have to be made by playing both and going with your intuitive response. You should love the feel & sound of the instrument. Tough call without having access to one!

I totally agree with Anyanka, there is no way I would consider buying an instrument without playing it first. I always wanted a Guerrini and I found a 96 bass one, when I played it I wanted to like it but couldn't; the feel and sound were wrong to me. :cry:

I have a Bugari CBA and love it to bits but I have never player a Pigini so cannot be of any assistance.

I haven't tried the models that you're looking at so no point in me trying to make a judgement and anyway my playing's not good enough to push a high end instrument to its limits. Whichever you were to pick, I very much doubt you would be disappointed. The only thing I can add (which is really why I am posting) is that I've played both brands to some extent, and I hang around with people who play both, and I think the two brands normally have a different character of sound. I personally prefer one over the other for what I do with it... and MAYBE (only maybe) one sound might be perfect for a slightly different range of music than the other??? So maybe if you can find some closely miked sound clips or videos, it might possibly help you decide. Possibly. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

I have also been very impressed with Cooperativa/Cooperfisa models, again with a slightly different sound, and there are other great high end makes out there.
 
Thank you Matt. That is heartening advice. I will also check out the Cooperfisa for price compatibility with the other two.

Jim when was the last time you were in the site, because i am a member i have signed in to yahoo and done everything necessary and I continue to get an error empty response message or an error message about the server. Maybe it is my satelite but all my other programs and groups are working just not the freedom forum.
 
Try a different browser, in my experience sometimes something goes awry with... chrome for example.

It is an interesting group. For anyone who doesnt know, the AccordionFreedomFoundation3 at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/AccordionFreedomForum3/info has a lot of free sheet music available. Of course I am new here, so it might be common knowledge. The foundation is part of/related to the host AccordionFreedomFoundation mentioned by Jim D
 
Having worked on quite a few new /10yr old Bugari accordions I would go with the Pigini. The Bugaris seem to have persistent issues with valves, mostly the glue on the leather valves turning to powder and the valves falling off. Tuning seems a bit sloppy at times also.
The alarming one was a new 72 bass that had sticking keys, that turned out to be packing tape wrapped around the aluminium guide under the key, to make up for guides in the deck that were cut to wide.

Woo, that is bad :o I thought Bugari was quality
 
Interesting, and I must admit the lovely Bugaris that I am familiar with are older than the ones that Kimric is talking about.
