I haven't seen this posted elsewhere here so I thought I'd let the community know that the great NY accordionist and composer Guy Klucevsek passed away this week. I don't know any other details. Those who know his music know what an exceptional talent he was. And those of us who had the good fortune to have met him and have been able to work with him know how kind and generous a person he was, too.

A great loss, but he left us a wonderful body of musical recordings and compositions for accordion. If you don't know his work, you should definitely check him out.
Here's his website and he has tons of videos on Youtube too.

He was a wonderful man. What a loss. Between that and Rob Reich dying suddenly we've lost two great composers.
I have a lot of his sheet music from the Accordion Tribe, which he sent to me.

I heard about it on Facebook. His friend Joseph Natoli made a composition in his honour.

I have his DVD of Accordion Tribe, I have 2 other accordion DVDs where he appears. On his DVD he rounded up some very unique individuals to live an incredible adventure, in the process raised the accordion.

He was a scholar, gentleman and renowned accordionist, he will be missed.

Guy was one of the "new school" of accordionists, even at age 78. He will be missed.
78 is *WAY* too young. He was sadly quite ill.
"He stopped touring in 2018 due to illness and last publicly performed in 2022. Klucevsek died at home in Staten Island on May 22, 2025, aged 78, after battling neuroendocrine cancer for nearly ten years."

peterF: Thank you for your post regarding the passing of Guy Klucevesk.
Without your post I may not have been exposed to his music, and arrangements. What a master. I'm sure he will be missed around the world.

He actually gave one final public performance last year in 2024 in Staten Island, NY, which I unfortunately missed. But it's correct that he largely stopped performing a number of years before that. Too soon.

I got to know Guy a few years ago when I saw this YouTube clip:

I asked him for the music, which he so graciously sent me. I then bought his book. Here are images of the music and his personal notes to me:

I played the music for him when he let me come to his home. It was really great. He let me play his bass accordion. We had a blast. Of course, I played The C&M Waltz for him.
Here are some photos from my visit as well as my performance:

He was very kind. He will surely be missed!

Klucevsek was like a god to me. Just a brilliant composer and performer. No one is is more responsible for the accordion being reconsidered as a serious instrument in the US after decades of kitsch. I believe people will still be performing and listening to his music in 100 years, if accordions and humanity are somehow still around.
