so at the moment im playing and trying out a new, petosa legerra, 96 bass with lmmh..it was a gamble because of a recent shoulder replacement. And then ayear later, a rotator cuff tear has been diagnosed. Pushing the bellows in is difficult and painful. Where’s the joy in that. My older, broken in accordions are easier to play. What can i exchange this for, that simply would be easier to play? Smaller, lighter, anything? Or is it just that i need to give it more time to become less difficult?

Elizabeth, I am sorry for your pain... but a torn rotator cuff is a torn rotator cuff. It is going to affect you anytime you need to make any kind of similar movement or exertion, not just when playing. Try lifting a 10 pound bag of groceries off a counter with both arms, it will cause the same discomfort or worse.

Address the issue and slowly work back to playing your Legerra... that is my 2 cents :)

Thank you jerry! Good advice. I also have been looking at several of the video's posted on this forum for bellows technique.
Im already looking at a replacement box. As my friend said….”you have a problem”. Wonder if there is a Accordion Consumer Anonymous group.

Anonymous Groups' wisdom suggests that it takes only two like minds that meet to attract others. It may also be how online forums are established. 😎

I just left the AAA festival and witnessed the Korg piano accordion, and wow, was that thing impressive. It's a one man band. Spectator asked if it can be played without using the bellows. Yes, indeed it can! But it's still about same weight as traditional accordion. And buku bucks. Like 7 grand.

When I had a shoulder surgery, I played a Melodica during recovery. For accordion, they do make some that don’t have any reeds on the bass aside. So if you’re playing in a band, and don’t need the bass, that would make a very light accordion.

An Sem ciao or MusicTech digital accordion that are lightweight, 12 to 14 lbs and can have bellows dynamics turned off might be a nice option while you recover. I think they are starting to drop in price quite a bit. They certainly won’t do as good of a job as the newer Roland’s or Korg models.
