All;

I'm looking for a source of supplies, and for now, treble reed leathers in the USA, mostly 6mm, 7mm, and 7.5mm wide. Bass reed leathers and valve leather will also be needed.

I normally purchase reed leathers from Ernst Deffner / Busso Music. They haven't answered my phone calls in over a week.

I've also used "House of Musical Traditions" in the past. They are sold out of all leathers.

Hohner doesn't show any on their supply pages either.

eBay doesn't have much to offer that I like, but perhaps I haven't found the right vendor.

Is there a good reliable source of reed leathers in the USA anymore? I would like to find a source in the USA if possible, but perhaps someone in the UK, Germany, Italy, etc. can supply what I need as well.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Different geography... but I get all my stuff from Carini in Castelfidardo (Italy). It's probably the world's largest supplier of accordion parts and accessories. They do world-wide shipping.
Thank you! That's the type of source I was looking for.

I've looked at their entire catalogue and I cannot find leather strips that mount to reed plates anywhere. Surely they must have them, right? Is there another source for those from somewhere else? Or, can you direct me to the catalogue page that Carini has for those?

Here is how to get to them:
  1. Home
  2. COMPONENTI FISARMONICA
  3. VOCI E SOMIERE
  4. VENTILLI (VALVOLE PER VOCI)
They have all possible sizes, in plastic, in leather, with plastic "contrapelli" (booster springs) already attached or not (and they have metel "contrapelli")... anything you can imagine. They also sell sheets of leather to cut your own valves (useful for instance when you need valves for a Russian bayan which has longer reeds than the longest Italian reeds).

I can't help with a US supplier, but I use https://www.stringsandboxes.de/epages/es117831.sf/en_GB/ in Germany and have found them to be good.
Thank you very much, Rosie for your answer. I'm not having any success in ordering from Italy, some I'm going to try the German company you suggested. It seems to be getting more and more difficult to get some accordion parts from here in the US.

By the way, I'm restoring 2 Frontalini accordions from about 1947 that are part of a Bursens Dance Organ made in Belgium and now located in the state of Ohio here in the US. This video shows a "sister" Dance Organ to this one in Ohio, and this one is located in St. Albans, UK. The accordions play at about 1:00 into the video. These accordions will never be played manually, and have a larger keyboard than standard, but not all the keys play. All the reeds play all the time. Most of the music is played by organ pipes, and the saxophone is a dummy, and just there for cosmetics.

Cheers!

Thank you very much, Paul, for your answers. I'm having a bit of a problem ordering the leathers, but I'm sure I'll hear from them soon.

In the meantime, I really enjoyed your website, and the wonderful music you've posted. I especially enjoyed the "Waltz from Faust" played by the Accordion Association Avanti. All of the music is fantastic! Bravo!
