The FR1-X has the free bass feature. As far as I knew, the FR1 does not. Yesterday I hit the set button together with fourth register button and lo and behold, I have a 4 row chromatic setup on the left side.
The first two rows remain bass and counter bass.
I found some post mentioning this as a feature added in a firmware update. I have no idea what firmware I have, as I bought the accordion second hand and dont own a midi cable.
