Accordion Officially Suppressed By Government Policy?

To be honest Noel my comments were a little “tongue in cheek” as I don't think there has ever been a time when liberty was truly valued as it's inevitably only for some.
Without exploitation and indentured slavery in the third world, none of us would have the wonderful goods and services we all enjoy in the west.

Back to Accordions ;)Accordions,Melodeon are fascinating instruments as people either seem to love them or hate them, and much like the banjo they seems to be the butt of numerous jokes.

"Between 20 and 40 percent of the population does not carry the gene needed to detect the odour of cyanide"

I wonder if some people have some sort of genetic aversion .I personally love the sound of accordions and banjos
and it's certainly not competency I have a mate that plays a wonderful Italian melodeon "absolutely brilliantly"
But but I have other musician friends that absolutely hate it.

I think I'm going to start calling them " genetically impaired":ROFLMAO:

We were not pelted with any tomatoes and the applause was deafening. Just sayin’
Hi Tom perhaps with the cost of living crisis tomatoes were just too expensive;)just kidding.
It might be very different in the USA in the UK but I think the accordion is considered something of an old man's instrument, and has a slightly humorous connotation.
It might just be the UK but we have an awful lot of Banjo and accordion jokes
I'm mid 60s and I attended a folk group and I was easily the youngest there:)

Perhaps there should be an "accordion history" forum which includes social and political ramifications. 🤔

It does and sadly for me that often comes from other musicians. However, I play accordion in lieu of a bass player in my friend's 1970s rock cover band and it goes down very well. It's also popular with the Morris dancing crowd. I wonder if it's the genre people expect you will play, rather than the instrument?

I've never heard such a thing.

If anything, it was the saxophone that was suppressed due to its association with degenerate music, and so it was in the eastern block and even in North America at some point.

The accordion is the people's instrument. It brings music everywhere, where pianos and organs can't go. If it has been suppressed by something, it is by people losing interest in it, and in music in general.

Very great!!!! The accordionist (Rosie) sitting next to the Marshall amp with the electric guitars going, and the Morris. You got it going on! Yes, the genre. We gotta play polka. People wanna dance.

Hi Rosie very cool (y)I think instruments just fall out of favour,I have played Ukes for over 40 years and it's absolutely amazing the popularity now.
Just about everybody I know has a uke and it used to be a novelty instrument.
It would only take someone like Ed Sheeran playing an accordion on a tune for a resurgence.

Hi Jamie 100% and with all the gold chains these rappers wear, they will easily strong enough to strap on an accordion;)

True. At our local high school ukes are what they use to teach music composition.

The accordionist (Rosie) sitting next to the Marshall amp with the electric guitars going,

Sadly I wasn't plugged into the Marshall stack, but one day maybe!

Hi Tom I attended a wonderful Napoleonic battle reenactment and a chap was giving a talk about how important music was and how tunes can create a sense of national identity.

They used the timing for marches and the campfire tunes reminded the soldiers of home and what they were fighting for.

I took my son that was 10 at the time and some of the younger Drummer boys in the front line were 9 years old !

The most shocking bit was the noise and smoke and the Earth actually shook with the cannon fire.

I think this iconic moment from a movie would have been better with an accordion but somehow I can almost hear it:)

Yes, but on the other hand, I'd rather keep complete idiocy out of accordion history chat.
Hi Jav I think the only people that think they have never said or done anything stupid ,are probably too dumb to know the difference ,dunning Kruger effect ;)

AI may possibly put a stop to the insanity ,that is man.
But that might not end well:unsure:

You make a valid point Plinky, since imho, AI will make the powerful and greedy more powerful and greedy which has terrible implications for the future of mankind such as war and climate change.

However, for us little guys, generative AI sure is fun to play with!

I've been experimenting with AI for a future album cover. It's good, I feel it's close now, and if I spend a few hours I can get something usable. Here's the sort of thing I've been generating. It usually seems to be fingers that AI struggles with. Edit: on the plus side it defaults to knocking 30 years and 80 pounds off me!

An he was telling me about creating Synthetic viruses using AI ,possibly better to live in ignorance:unsure:
