Accordion aesthetics - discuss. Don't argue!

This "down home woodalike" trend seems to be an attempt to entice diatonic players (back) to the chromatic.
Can't say formica ever did it for me except when it was enjoying being formica.

I'd like to try one of those wooden ones like that beautiful Serrenelli.

It's not Formica - it's wood and lovely hand made reeds too and the tone is exceptional. And it's light. I love it for folk music. The keys are a bit smaller being only a 72 bass but it's fantastic!

Its not Formica
Yes you said that so my comment was directed elsewhere - ie the Manfrini
but see also

beautiful in black from a good maker but described as finition cerisier = cherrywood finish a term also used for cupboard doors.
Not to my liking and in my view going for a melodeon style downhome feel.
Formica (or celluloid if you like - I know its different) is fine as long as its honest - just like all that tasteless sparkly bling that ruled the roost before universal black and I have to say the odd real wood instruments in the PA/CBA field.

Fair enough. I love the simple black and my cooperativa will have that classical look and I agree with the Manfrini comment but wow, the Serrennellini, is a lovely sound.

Yep, that Serenellinis another very appealing one. Quite desirable.

However, on the Transatlantic Session I watched recently, Phil Cunningham played something that looked similar at first glance but turned out to be an imitation wood Manfrini. Its got to be one of the ugliest boxes Ive ever seen, like a 1970s sideboard! The Manfrini G-Plan model.

I like the look of this one though..

Please excuse for recasting your post; speaking for me, anyway, its a bit easier to see whats up when the image youre talking about, is the one that appears in your post.

Esthetically, I think the bellows edge tape should be a different color. In both, looks like the tape is the same color as the box. I bet a quarter it would look better if it were instead, say, the color of the grille backing.

If that's the one he played on the Transatlantic Sessions.... then that's the one that sparked my G-Plan remark! It looked very very fake. Shame, because his playing was totally genuine.

He was playing a 5 register Manfrini on the 2 “AS” that I saw, so I doubt that we’re talking about the same instrument.

This is the accordion that I aspire to acquire.

Add a black Balaclava and big boots.. :)

Assassins' Guild - like it. Although I was thinking more James Bond, as in: it probably converts into a jet pack and also contains a mini bar.

Don't encourage them. The supplier probably sent the wrong order and they didn't know what else to do with all those black keys.

I have thought about those black keys before when this one came up on ebay.

I thought they were different and nice looking, and accented the wood quite well.

could be, it looks like the names are burnt on; so perhaps the branding iron was too hot. :)

Say what you want, I really like the look of a real (exposed) wood accordion, and the black keys just made this one look unique enough that no one else would be playing one.
After all isn't that why we all play accordion? (b/c no one else is and it makes us unique?)

speaking of unique a short joke (to move this post from mostly off topic to completely off topic)

Q- How do you catch a unique rabbit?

A- unique up on it.

@Anyanka's post.....

Oh no its....Loki ....and this thought just in.....if he was unclothed .....It would be Loki Bare !! ta dah........... :b :ch :b

And I quite like the Accordion ...but cautiously ...it has a slightly decadent look ...a bit like those hair styles that fade up to a darker colour
