The history and distribution of the free-reed mouth-organ in SE Asia

Very interesting investigation of accordion-cousins in South East Asia. Dates original instruments to Laos and Thailand 4,000 years ago! Seems to use linguistic shifts in the names of instruments to date the oldest mouth-blown free reeds to this region before migration to Oceana. Pretty cool.
This would be well-before the development of the relatively modern Chinese sheng, fabled to be only 3,000 years old.
