It is a week ago since I mentioned a visitor to our Folk Club, who played his accordion superbly well. I am happy to report that he showed up again this Tuesday evening.

This man really can play his instrument, and I am very pleased that he is enjoying his time with us. His big Hohner sounds lovely, and his technique is as good as I have ever seen or heard.

I managed to have a little chat with him during the interval and at the end of the evening, and am happy to report that he wishes to become a regular member of our club. With this in mind I provided him with my card, asking him to email me at his convenience.

Thats awesome! So what kind of big Hohner does he have and in your chats with him, did you find out a bit about his accordion history?

I myself have filled in the 2017 membership form to join the Montreal club and will hand it in tomorrow. :)

Hi Jerry,

I did ask John which model of Hohner it was; his reply was, "it's a red one." I concluded from this that he didn't really know himself, and that he wasn't much interested in such things. I did find out that he gave up playing in his twenties, but started again around ten or twelve years ago.

It seemed to have around eleven or twelve key-changers, with about five on the bass side. (though I could be wrong)

He is away on holiday (vacation) next week, but will be back the week after. John has my card with contact details, and I hope that he will be in touch very soon.

Is the Montreal Club a Folk Club? I only ask as it seems alien to me for Folk Clubs to have a membership form. All we do here is walk through the door with our instruments. It has always been like that in England. Whenever Brenda & I visit another part of the country, I have a little look online where the nearest Folk Club is situated. We bowl in, introduce ourselves, and play a few tunes.

In fact, as my home town is on the canal system, we have visitors (usually retired people) who tour the country via the inland waterways. They tell us of their adventures around the UK, with special emphasis on the other Folk Clubs they have visited on their travels. Of course, this is mainly in the summer months, though we did have a couple visit us just before Xmas.

Anyway, very best wishes,

Stephen.
