Hi folks - this comes on the heels of an exchange with ouijaboard who mentioned on another thread they play both PA and CBA. I'm wondering - is there a separate repertoire you play on each? No doubt there's great amount everyone plays on both. Ouijaboard, and others - just curious..

*I'll rhapsodize a bit. So I always wanted to play CBA. If/when it ever comes up, "which one should i learn?" I always say "cba (all things being equal)." And always assumed the right one would avail itself, eventually. A few days ago, one did, and i passed because I don't know what I'd do with it now - being already immersed in the music I want to play (on other boxes).

I felt a bit rueful to pass on the box.

No, no separate repertoire. Yet, anyhow. I could see myself getting to a point of using CBA more for French musette. But I'm occupied lately with commitments playing a lot of Irish/Scottish/Cape Breton trad tchunes, and doing that on both.

But I'm largely a trad/world-instrumental-folk type. Classical types, or people who play more complex jazz, might have more coalesced leanings toward one or the other.

About 10 years ago I was interested in "mixte" l'accordeon diatonique and nearly went all-in. Twas then when I was thinking smaller cba would fall my way eventually. But by now, I'm as likely to get a bandoneon, which I'm not going to do. It's bad enough with the variety going on now..

I've been playing for just over two years. I play both piano and button. I find that playing the same pieces on both piano and button accordions confuses my fingers. I find myself reaching for keys on the button accordion and buttons on the piano accordion. For now I'm keeping the repertoire separate with the hopes of, as I improve, having the ability to switch back and forth.
