Hi there,

I'd like to learn learn more about the stradella bass mechanism: how it works, how it's built, how to repair it...
Do you know where I could find information about this?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi Robin, your best bet is to buy a beater on eBay and take it all apart, put it back together, good luck!

A nice first start to learn more about how everything in an accordion works and can be repaired is always accordionrevival.com.
Thanks for the reference! I knew the website, but I handn't spotted the " DISASSEMBLING A BASS MACHINE" section.

Some bass machines are removable as a unit, you might want to start with one of those - take it out and then study it instead of trying to see round bits of wood.

Examples are Hohner Atlantic built (Atlantic, Lucia, etc from about 57) and a lot of Scandallis (mid 50's onwards at least).

Just take it all apart and lay out the pistons without mixing them up, and while it's apart, if needed replace the valve pads with the same thickness (or you'll have to readjust everything). If you want a parts accordion to play with (cheap) message me.
