this is an observation and got me wondering :?:

debate does help a lot and is interesting and helpful

but i thought more people would post their own recorded tunes on this type of forum as it's about a musical instrument as opposed to some soundless object - sometimes 'action speaks louder than words' maybe

why do some people post self recordings and some people dont ?

for me posting my tunes personally the benefits are builds confidence, ability, feedback, self critique but need to be in right frame mind and the negatives time consuming, nerves, stress at times

with regards to others posting personally for me the benefits are it opens my mind to music and the negatives - cant think of many other than if i dont enjoy the tune as its not my taste but still like to hear way played

You can only post self recordings if you have the means to do it. Digital cini camera, zoom recorder, etc.

I've been meaning to, but find recording devices strangely intimidating/offputting! The moment I switch on my little Sony thingie, my playing goes to pieces completely...

Join the club! I find recording more difficult than solo performance. Might be something to do with thinking that if you make a mistake you will haave to do it again from the start. On the other hand if you make a mistake 'performing' you just have to crash on and hope youve' got away with it!

I agree with Anyanka and george about there being something nerve wracking about hitting the record button. I think the biggest problem is that it records the mistakes forever and can make some cringe worthy listening.

However the reason why I record is to listen to myself (trying to ignore the mistakes) and see what I liked about the way that I play and what I need to work on. It also makes a great tool to see how much you have progressed.

The reason that I post is because I am impressed at what I have done and want to share it. Part of this is the self serving "look at me" and part of this is the hope that it inspires others to try.

As to the equipment, I have a lot but find that for most things my tablet (iPad) with soundcloud works good enough for what I need it to and have used the microphone built into my computer on occasion with nice results.
