I now have the Fr-4X (second hand) and it seems the batteries do not work. As in with no power adapter, nothing happens when I push the power button.

So I put it on charge (IE connected the power adapter) and left it on for about 5 hours, removed the power adapter and still nothing happened when I turned on the power.

So, question is with these ni-mh batteries (Duracell 2500mA), can they just go "dead"? I am not sure how old the batteries are, previous owner could not say.

Alternatively, have there been issues with the charging section of the FR power supply being faulty?

From the manual, p11:

"The batteries will not be charged even if you connect the ACadaptor when rechargeable batteries are installed in the FR-4x. You must use a commercially available charger to charge rechargeable batteries."

Ahhh, ok thanks....I did miss that for some reason. haha, and I have all the 5 manuals as well

;-) The beauty of electronic documents is that you can have the computer search them. (And I downloaded the manuals for FR-1/4/8x before ordering an FR-1xb.)
hahaha, yes I must admit (even though I did get the manuals before purchase) that I really only "skimmed" most of them...didn't recall a part about it not charging, hence the (now redundant) question :)

When you charge the batteries, please be sure that all of the ten are fully charged before putting them in the accordion. Even one bad one will cause the accordion to lock up, even if the accordion is powered off when you insert the hoilder. If you have to buy new ones, buy a whole set of ten, and make sure that the batteries and the charger are the same brand. DO NOT use alkaline batteries. They will damage the accordion.

Thanks. I had noticed the previous owner had mixed Duracell and EverReady batteries. the E's were 2300mAh and the D's were 12500mHa...I am just going to buy a new set of ten and a commercial charger, following your advice thanks!

I must be in big trouble. For the last 15 years, I’ve been charging Sanyo/Panasonic Eneloop batteries with an Ansmann charger! Not only that, I’ve been charging Roland battery pack (FR-7) with a Tenergy charger.

at this time, Tenergy does not have an NiMh charger listed that is capable of
handling more than an 18 Volt pack

if you get a chance, please post the model number and i will bug them about
making some more ?

and for fun if you have a big back yard !
in a pinch, typical Solar Panels give 12 volts nominally and two wired in series can
gradually charge a 24 volt pack if the current is limited to a trickle
often on sale for $250 for a 3 or 4 panel kit at Harbor Freight

they also have a nice, mid-sized portable fold-up contractors charger (2 panel, 24 volt)
designed to charge tool batteries on the job

.......and don't forget that even if you only use the ac power, the batteries will run out over time. Another good reason to have 2 10 packs if you need battery power in a pinch.
