Hey guys,

I apologize in advance if there is a thread out there for this out there already. But I have never played accordian before but am very very interested in purchasing one to provide a new layer of music to the folk/acoustic music that I have been writing. I am interested purely in playing chords so was wondering if anyone could help me out. I also understand these are big investments but any cheap recommendations would be great since I'm not looking to break the bank.

Thanks so much guys for your support! And look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Always the best advice is to visit a local musical dealer that handles acoustic, digital, new, and used accordions. A well established music shop will in most cases will work with you on your needs. Their are members here that can recommend music shops if you can tell us your location.

Where are you? If you're in England or Wales, in most places, a generic local music shop is probably not the best choice - they are unlikely to have any accordions anyway. Unless you are very lucky, it is probably worth making a special journey to a specialist shop (of which there are very few....!)

Many players of folky type music choose a diatonic accordion (UK = melodeon)
There are particularly strong players in mainland Europe (and some pretty good UK based ones too)
If you just want to chord along in a couple of keys that could be useful and not too pricey.
If this could work, try melodeon.net
