hello

so im encountering a problem where
I forget what I have learnt to the point
where if I was learning a song the previous
day I can't remember what it is.

I decided to write down what I have to practice
each day and have practiced. that being said
ya all kno I hate bass jumps :hb but have
decided to put down the jump from dm to bb
and back obviously this will eventually make me
amazing at this one jump but everything else not so
much. so far Ive done 2 days including today of the bass
jump training and I do 5 minutes everytime. that being
said how often should I change it, would ya recommend
doing c to g then c to do etc. building up.

as well as this would you say 5 minutes is sufficient?

just realised how I made it sound
I know iv'e only started this for 2 days
and obviously this isnt long enough
I just mean in future.how often should I
add something new to practice

thanks

5 minutes is better than 0 minutes.

I have a real hard time practicing anything but songs (tunes). If you can, more power to you, it is good. I guess it's really up to you, and what your practice routine entails.

Good luck, the jumps are hard, but will come in time as long as you keep at it.

First, congrats on deciding to keep a practice journal. It's very useful!

Sometimes I'll write down what I need to practice before I even get out my instrument. Then I just check off the things as I do them. I also use it to note any trouble spots I'm having while I practice, so I'll remember to work on them next time. Finally, I use it to note tempo markings for things I'm practicing with a metronome. (So next time I'll know where to start, or to bump it up slightly, etc.)

Second, I'd advise not practicing by "time" but rather by "successes". That is, instead of working on a single bass jump (or scale, or tricky passage in a song, etc.) for 5 minutes, work on it until you can perform, let's say, five (or whatever number you want) in a row perfectly. If you do four perfect ones but make a mistake on number five, then the count resets back to zero and you have to start over. Keep at it until you get that streak of five, then stop and work on something else.

You might also do this at different times during your practice session. So maybe shoot for a streak a five right at the beginning, then work on a couple of different tunes, then shoot for another streak, etc.

thanks for the tip

just gave it a try and good god
what a task I tried a streak of 5
which personally i thought pretty easy
so I tried 10. good god lol.

also as I said earlier in this post I had only
been doing it for 2 weeks and so I dont really
expect any improvement yet. that being said
when should I start looking or is it rather just
noticing it as I think thats where my obsession
with left hand and muscle memory comes in.

thanks
