Petosa 950

Does anyone have this?how do you like it?
I really like the way the titanium matte looks. I just cannot get beyond wanting my next accordion to have a look that really grabs me!
As well you should!!!!! Good luck! (I’m sorry I know nothing about this accordion.)

Ok, well thanks anyway, Tom!
Looking at the traditional black and white color pallette does not give me much accordion excitement…
Its a nice compact size, its called a Jazz, folk accordion.and has a LMM configuratiom only.

I would spend the extra $500 for the 1050 to get the 4th set of reeds and one more note on the keyboard. Remember, black is the ultimate color for an accordion.

i guess Jazz people are just Folks too !

so Beth, because you are in Alaska, buying this Petosa is long term, perhaps,
a safer investment, as the Warranty and availability of Service and help
may be needed by you in the future
so
though you know my personal feelings about Petosa overall are vaguely menza menz,
you obviously can afford this, and it likely will last you the rest of your natural life,
and it will give you a lot of satisfaction and fun too hold and enjoy and play..
it WiLL inspire you
so i vote to do it.. you like the size you like the geometry you love the looks..

do you have enough experience to choose the tuning ? they give 3 stock choices
though no doubt that could be custom adjusted too, but mainly you cannot
choose the full Musette tuning if you will later want it tuned down.. hard on the reeds..
so choose carefully for maximum happiness, or order it with an extra reedblock
(the out of chamber) so you could have both a dry set and musette set easily
switchable by you from time to time

both the L and M in chamber are at a-440 .. the M out of chamber is the m+ tuning

i think this would be a fun Stroller for professional use

go for it !

Well, you will definitely pay a Petosa Premium for this LMM given that Mssrs. Magnotta and Solecki in NY and Philly are making Bugari 37/96 LMMs available in the Fab painted or pearloid color of your choice at $4500. Stock TAM, handmade upgrade orderable. No TC, but several pounds lighter to a degree your exoskeleton will appreciate, and equally wonderful tone to this ear.

Also seeing beautiful Scandalli Olive or Zircote wood 4-voice 96-bassers at LB around mid-$5Ks.

OTOH, the 950s are doubtless fine instruments. And I'm 100% with you on the desire to avoid the existential despair instilled by Palmer-Hughes Accordion Club Black. Those titanium finishes with the painted wood effects are pricey but luscious.

For what it's worth, red celluloid accordions are hard to beat for Scottish traditional music as a classic alternative to black.

I give you Ian Cruickshanks & his band - with Hohner Shand Morino & Hohner Morino (M series) in pearloid red:

P.S. At the ripe old age of 42 I must be getting very set in my ways as I wouldn't entertain the idea of a "titanium matte" accordion, as I don't think these fashion colours stand the test of time.

Red pearloid is also a tradition in Irish trad, along with "the Greys," the rare and coveted grey pearloid Paolo Soprani 2-row semitone bisonorics of a very narrow span of mid century years. Very nice reissues now available in grey as well as red. Of course, there are now many lovely wood, paint, pearloid choices for the jazzy musician depressed by Accordion Club Black--- choice is wonderful, and Vive La Difference!

OP, are you able/have you been able to visit Seattle and play 950s and see the titanium designs in person? I gather the PNW is seeing some rough weather at present, but if a visit is possible at some point, surely that could help clarify things.

Yes, i have played it a couple times. I am a bit more drawn to the 1050 that has a high reed, or three middles, and which is lighter by one giant pound. Neither am i very drawn to the “jazz” part of the “jazz/folk” description of the 950.
But i really like the color combos the 960 comes in a lot more! And great compact size.
They said they could make any accordion i want in any color but it might take up to a year to get it!
And i still dont know how many more gazillions of dollars that would be.

Also going back to seattle in five weeks.andif i wake up alive from my shoulder surgery..Well maybe there will be a future….

Im not jazzy….But i sure love a color that is edgy, and different..particularly in a grey palette.
Yes, accordion club black: i think it looks appropriate and classy in an accordion orchestra, but otherwise, ho hum…..yawn…..

Thank you for this, walker! I enjoyed the music and the sights and your comments!
Although im a lot older than your ripe 42 years, ihavent been playing very long
So am not at all rooted in any tradition of timeless traditional classical black accordions.
If the visual appeal is not going to grab me, i dont think the rest will.

Well i think i would too.
But what do you mean by “ultimate color”?
Thank you for your comment!

Thank you so much OuijaBoard, for your comments and information, and witticisms.
Existential despair- thats the funniest one ilve heard yet, and so accurate…
“Lucious”titanium finishes: perfect!

Its got an edge to it... might need safety corners.

I agree. As Morticia Addams once said, "black is such a happy colour".😂

My next accordion is almost bought, sort of, because i have already traded in a 120 bass, which was got on a trade in, and so forth back in time…
Thank you for your opinions and advice.
I sure dont stroll either, but perhaps i like that kind of music.

Thank you!

I'm sure you saw as well the Little Pro Xt 32/96 compact with 4 voices and the super premium reeds that also comes in the titanium and custom finishes . . . regardless, it sounds like you're headed for something very special and inspiring!
