Have we seen this guy, Paul Betken?

I came across him for the first time today. Apparently he’s been around for a while, had a duet with Jerry Cigler. I like his understated manner. Here’s his Autumn Leaves. He also has a tutorial on this one. Hope you like it!

In fact, here they are doing Bye Bye Blackbird. Paul has to throw in a couple rapid flourishes to show he can do it, but generally speaking they avoid the histrionics required to prove your jazz manhood.

Thank you for sharing, @Tom!

I am a fan of Paul Betken's. First heard him play when youtube randomly suggested a video of his to me, where he plays a pop song on accordion instead of playing the jazz classics. It was him playing Billy Joel's Just the Way You Are, and I loved it:

I loved that you said that 🤣
Those histrionics are usually as annoying as classical pianists throwing their arms around up in the air every other note to prove that they are intense. I am on the Chopin team, he hated it and called it "catching pigeons"

Thanks Ignachitti! I’m definitely in the “less is more” camp.

Brilliant....if you have to make a fuss and noise about it yourself to prove how great it is then it was probably shite all along ...
Less is more....if it's wrong then play it strong...💪😉
