Russ - located in Newtown, PA. I have a Roland FR-8X, which sounds wonderful when I'm using earphones, but the sound is weak when heard without phones. Is there a way to increase output. Yes, I have the volume turned up.

I use a Bose L1 Pro8 with my 8X. I don't play the 8X without the Bose. I have my internal 8X speakers OFF. There is a "Night & Day" difference in the quality of the sound/tone.
If you like the classic Hammond B3 sound, a "must have" is a Micro Vent 122, (connected in series between the 8X and the Bose) that duplicates the rotary sound of a Leslie 122. It is only the size of a pack of cigarettes, but has the sound of a 200 lb. Leslie. It has a pushbutton foot switch that controls rotor speeds of Fast, Slow and Off.

Thank you very much for this information. Bose is one of the units I'm considering. I'm not familiar with the Micro Vent 122 but it sounds intriguing.
Yes. From the factory it is set to run at around 50% of max volume to preserve battery power... but if you go to menu section 14.4 and set Audio Boost: ON
This opens up the internal amps to being able to use their full maximum power.
Now that said, one cannot realistically reproduce bass and volume levels equally when comparing to a sound source that is so close it is physically in your head vs having it in a small size limited speaker.
Also, even without the audio boost turned on, I have played in restaurants with 50+ people and no one had any issues hearing me clearly... if you are needing more volume to clearly hear that level of sound, I would respectfully ask you to see a hearing specialist.

I usually play with headphones, which obviously gives me excellent sound reproduction. I'll try setting the Audio Boost to ON - it's worth a shot.
I'm still learning all the intricacies of the 8X - I upgraded from a 3X. I normally play using AC power, not the battery. Thank you for your suggestion.
With headphones I am probably never above about 25-25% of max volume, protect your hearing and try not to go over 50%, at those levels, I am making funny faces and reaching for the volume knob to turn it down... lol
I'm 65 and already starting to see the effects of my age with slightly reduced hearing. Five years ago I went for a hearing test and was told that my hearing was in the top 5% of excellent, he said I had the hearing of a 10 year old... lol. Today, tinnitus and slightly reduced hearing are definitely factors for me.

Well, I'm 83 and still very active, still working. The hearing in my left ear has been reduced since I was a teen - caused by infection from swimming in a lake. For the most part, though, my hearing is good, and I agree, trying to be aware of volume setting. I appreciate all your comments - very helpful.
