Not sure whether or not this title was used on this forum before or was it on the old one, anyway, tomorrow I'm playing for a church wedding in the north east. A totally new experience for me, although not solo, I play in an accordion quartet amongst other things. We will be playing traditional wedding music in church including the entry of the bride, the signing of the register and the exit of the wedding party. I have admit to being a little nervous, its a large church and I know there will be a big audience, but my three colleagues are solid reliable musicians, so it will be yet another step in the great accordion adventure.

What will your next public appearance be, tell us about it.

Pete

played at a christening today with an experienced friend which went well

well other than the occasion getting to me and messing up on a few tunes

we were well received, appreciated and welcomed by the 80 or so guests

we did a thing where we walked around the tables which was good but problematic as we struggled to hear each other especially as i struggle to play loud (-1- the effort -2- my pa is not that loud and not as loud as his verdi)

highlights

an older couple danced to a tango and a waltz

an older gentleman asked if we knew la cumparsita which was a pleasant shock as that is the last song that i have learnt :P

i've a tidy little gig for a town twinning assoc tonight....normally a sweet little giveaway, you know the type.. turn up in a wine stained stripey sweater with an onion in your mouth...knock out a few french numbers and everyones happy.....
Tonight could be sketchy though...just been informed i'll be playing to a crowd of french/german students and their mentors....i can already imagine some 'enfant terrible' or 'delinquent jeunesse' borrowing my accordion and exposing me for the dreadful fraudster i really am
May open with the Dad's Army theme for good measure ;)

Never let a punter touch your accordion. :)

David, sounds like your audience loved it and quite likely the problems you were aware of, they weren't bothered about. Hobos, I hope it went well, I played at a twinning event once where the local dignitaries were sharing the tent with some local families who had decided to use the same tent purely to get drunk. They seemed to enjoy the music more than the dignitaries to be fair. I can't play much this year but my next gig is on bass with an accordion quartet, under a canopy somewhere. I know most of the bass parts very well by now. I hope. Anyone else got anything coming up?

I must ask - what is a "twinning event"?

I'd Google it, but I'm in the middle of a thunderstorm and Google isn't working at the moment. Seems I can only get to this forum, no where else on the internet at the moment.

My next gig is 4th of July. Which reminds me, I need to download some more patriot songs and learn them!!!!!

Wiki: Twin towns or sister cities are a form of legal and social agreement between towns, cities, counties, oblasts, prefectures, provinces, regions, states, and even countries in geographically and politically distinct areas to promote cultural and commercial ties.[1] The modern concept of town twinning, conceived after the Second World War in 1947,[2] was intended to foster friendship and understanding between different cultures and between former foes as an act of peace and reconciliation,[3][4] and to encourage trade and tourism.[1] In recent times, town twinning has increasingly been used to form strategic international business links between member cities.[

Me: A cynic might say that today it is a smokescreen for a civil servant gravy train ...

I agree - never let a punter touch the accordion, at least not without it being on your shoulders!

Sounds a bit like my outfit Matt, this will be my next appearance http://www.note-able.co.uk/news-page/

Sounds like an interesting programme Pietro. Especially the Pavane.

Hi, Yes the Pavane was chosen as a complete contrast to separate two rather boisterous pieces. Really looking forward to the evening and getting together with like minded people from over the county border.

Looking ahead, we have been asked to play for an alternative wedding at the end of July and then for a three way twinning association function in August attended by French and German guests, so goodness knows what we will play for that, a little tactical international diplomacy will be called for!
