Ric46, I have been stuck at Piacenza train station more times than I care to remember - always on the way to Stradella.

But please, if we are talking Morricone, what is more lovely than the Theme from Cinema Paradiso?

Happy New Year to you both,

Stewart

Cinema Paradiso is one of my favourite films and of course the music is moving and excellent .
For anyone that has not actually seen the film it is available on DVD ......I would recommend getting the version that is the extended version that has all the editors cuts included ,,,making the film longer . the cut version does not have a satisfactory ending its sort of up in the air . the other version you see that main character who has become by now a famous Italian film director .......actually meets up again with the love of his youth Elena !!!...................................

I smiled when I came across this line while reading In His Own Words, a biography/extended interview with Morricone. Here (p. 233) he discusses the popularity of his composition "Gabriel's Oboe" from the film The Mission:

I included this piece of music on my midi/acoustic accordion in a cabaret show I was in several years ago . A lady and her husband came up to me at the end of the evening and asked me the name of the tune I had played ....i said its called Gabriel's Oboe . She gave me a big smile and thanked me for playing it and then said to her Husband "Thats the Tune I want Played at my Funeral"...........it's true you can't make this stuff up !!!

Gabriel's Oboe is a most superb piece of music. I utterly adore it. Shame it was not written for accordion and orchestra instead...

Orchestral music for motion picture - one of my favourite genres!

Now's your chance Walker!! :)

Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone. Were class mates at school. According to an interview I watched on the Italian rai uno tv prog
