Minimalist

hey Neil

your Accordiola is in fact the exact perfect Student instrument for your Son,
unless it is too big for him

YOU however, Dude, it is time to get you a better box, as you have
outgrown the Student excelsior if you are asking questions
about the sound and stuff

better reeds, nicer action with two pivot rods, professional bellows
and other things not easily noticed with the eyes but very much noticed
when you play

and regarding your question.. student accordions are usually kinda noisy
also
you can do it for your ear in a home setting, but you need
to know you NEVER apply Reverb to Bass tones in performance
with any kind of Volume in a big room or area

bass is a big huge waveform.. it is gonna roll and pick up reflections
all by itself with no need of any assistance.. so when reverb is
superimposed on Bass through a PA system, at the middle to the end
reaches of the room it sounds like poorly defined Mud

easy mistake to make, but now you know

Well, what do you think? It looks unmanageably big to me.

As for me ... I'm dying for a better instrument. But I've got seven kiddos to fund, so it's going to have to wait for a little bit.

Thanks for the tip on the reverb.

Neil, your music is superb. Keep writing and playing in the marvellous way you do. I really hope the instrument you deserve finds you. You have a spark of something that's extra special.

Another great piece Neil. You definitely have an accordion style and I enjoyed learning your other piece last summer. Congratulations again!

P.s. I thought your accordion sounded lovely and a bit of key noise is fine. Notre Dame in Paris was always considered to be a great organ (now if course a late organ) but it was very clakety clak with action noise.

Thanks Ben. There is something intimate about a bit of instrument noise. Maybe I need a cathedral to attach to my accordion :ROFLMAO:

No more than me at 8:

I can also attest that when I hit 13, the beast of an accordion I wore made this one a lightweight… lol

If there is an interest, fuel it slowly. If there is a passion, feed it as much as it can handle. ;)

Edited to add: Your son has one huge advantage that I didn't have at his age... a father that actually played. That said. I think my dad more than compensated enough with his complete and unstoppable support and belief in me at the time.

This is what I moved to at 13:

185 bass Hohner Morino VI N... 35+ pounds.
Kids are incredible and stronger than what most would first think. Not to worry, they will tell you when it's too much!

Many a young lad began his accordion career by (gradually) growing into his "oversized " accordion.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating: I would let him have a go while continuing to search the market!🙂🙂

When I was a kid, child sized accordions and bicycles were unheard of where I lived.
Hence, most kids grew up learning to play the accordion or to ride a bike on outrageously oversized items, or not at all!
The same thing applied to those learning the piano!😄

I'm so glad you enjoyed that piece last summer. The space I recorded that in is now demolished -- sad, since it was acoustically so enchanting. But I'm excited to try out the recital hall in our new building. It will be nothing like that ... but maybe it will also be very good.
