So a while ago I acquired a Microvox M310, after researching different mic systems. I got it because I wanted an affordable but good mic system that I could swap easily between instruments and allow me to move around on stage. I hadn't actually had a chance to use it until recently, but when I was testing it to make sure it worked, I found that it was acting a bit strange. I don't know if this is just how it works, but I feel like it has something wrong with it.
Essentially, when I plugged it into Audacity to check the output, I found that the sound was undesirably muddy and distorted; not enough to make it unlistenable but enough to make it sound like it was being recorded through an old mobile phone. I guessed this was because the gain was set too high, so I turned down the volume on the mic. Apparently the volume control reduces the bass mic volume but not the treble? I definitely don't think this is right. To my knowledge the mic has two controls: a balance trimpot for the bass and treble mics, and a master volume knob. The balance seems to work fine, but the volume is acting weirdly, and as it stands, I can't use the microphone for performing or recording - the two things I need it for.
Am I missing something? Is this a fault or a feature?
Thanks!

Maybe that "while ago" was long enough for the battery to be (mostly) depleted?
And besides that, when you say you "plugged it into Audacity" I don't know what you mean. The Microvox is hardware and Audacity is software. You can only plug the Microvox into some device with a microphone input. That input may be faulty? Or it may just be a line input? Have you tried just plugging it into an amp for use on stage, or into a true microphone recording device?
