I saw a video posted on here recently that I did not bookmark and now cannot find. The piano accordion being played was either built left handed or being played upside down. Did anyone else see the clip and if so can you post a link please.
Many Thanks

There are several variations: most videos that look like someone is playing left-handed are taken with a phone in selfie-mode (using front camera) and as a result they are mirrored. You can tell because of the keyboard layout, the orientation of the bass keyboard, and of course often also the lettering.
There are a few videos of someone really playing left-handed, for which the accordion is turned upside down. This can well be because the person is left-handed, has taken no accordion lessons (they would immediately be told the keyboard should be on the righthand side), or they are just videos taken with the accordion upside-down for fun.
The only accordion I know that was purposely built to be played left-handed was that of Rudolf Würthner (who lost some right-hand fingers/functionality).

Wirralaccordion,
You may be thinking of a relatively recent thread by Maugein 96 in the European Music section entitled "Sevdah from Herzegovina with adapted Guerrini", which features a one handed player with an accordion adapted for playing left handedly .

Hi Dingo40,
Yes, that is the one.
Left handed guitars are not unusual, Paul McCartney played one but I hadn't seen a LH piano accordion until this.
Many Thanks,
Phil

Neither had I, although I have seen occasional videos on YouTube of both PAs and CBAs being, literally, played upside down by left handed players. They seem to be quite OK with it. :)

Left- handed guitar: sounds a bit like the pranks played on unsuspecting newbies at workshops being sent to fetch the left-handed spanner/screwdriver/hammer :p

Is there such a thing, or would one simply string one in reverse order?

Dingo,

Consistent with the popularity of the guitar, there are literally hundreds of thousands of left handed guitars, and some of those are even mass produced. They are simply strung like a right handed guitar, so that the player is playing an exact mirror image of a right handed instrument. Characters like Jimi Hendrix played a standard right handed guitar upside down, but these days there is no need.

Here is a link to such an oddity:-

They are as common as short-sighted long distance lorry drivers.

At that price if you want one youd better hurry, as there will soon be none left.

I’m pretty sure Hendrix restrung his Strat appropriately with low E on top.
It’s essentially impossible to play chords with high E on top.
But doing that also resulted in a separate effect... bass strings being transmitted
through pickups tuned for high frequencies,
and visa versa. Integral part of his sound.

Hendrix did restring his Strat as you describe, and no doubt the pick ups still being upside down had an effect on his sound. Mind you he often played with so much distortion and effects that it probably never mattered much. I read somewhere that he was infamous for playing while his guitars were out of tune, but I wasnt really a fan of his so never paid much attention to how or what he played. A guitar legend without doubt, but maybe not for everybody.

Dick Dale played his Strat upside down with low E on the bottom, and never bothered with chords. A guitar legend? Maybe if you were a surf fan! (like I was).

John & Stickista,

Well I never! :)
The things one never imagined!
Thanks for the interesting information regarding left and right handed guitars : I just thought a left hander would play one upside down  :P
I had no idea Jimmy Hendrix was left handed!
Thanks :)
