Still gigging at the Edelweiss Biergarten in Phoenix. Love entertaining in a family oriented restaurant.

Like practising for months and months on one thing and finally putting it aside as hopeless, and a few months later, just for fun, you try it again and it is actually pretty good? Because you focused on not quite the important things and got annoyed about them above their importance, but the real benefits actually kept under the radar but ended up making a difference?

Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter.” – Francis Chan

“Failure is not the opposite of success, it’s part of success.”

Sometimes we need to take a break! Especially, from social media. How many, first thing in the morning check out their phones or iPad to see what others are saying about yourself and others? Does this mean success to you to know you have many friends on social media that reads or likes your response? To me, training your heart to have peace within, is a start. Especially with your real friends and family. Sit in a quiet room and examine ourselves, not others. This should be first priority in your daily routines.
I hope someday there will be a
change and peace within all of us. I sure found this peace but have a long way to go.

Welcome back and well said Keys! This is my only social media and I do look forward to reading what everyone says when I drink my coffee in the morning and gaze upon the beauty of nature. Finding peace within is an admirable goal and can lead a musician towards authenticity and expressiveness with less. I could do better…..

What do we seek as a musician? To be the best in the world?
At my gig, I have experienced meeting with a lady whom was going in for cancer surgery. She felt a need to talk about this on my break. I listened and we then departed. Are we setting an example to others? Keeping our performances family friendly? Getting smiles out of customers whom have big worries? We all have a past and some kind of issue within ourselves.

Good! Yea, I don’t care (or have the remotest chance) of becoming the best in the world. Smiling and audience interaction are my prime strengths and my biggest fun. I hear at least 5 stories per gig of “my mother, my grandfather, myself played (has an) accordion.” I always say “That’s great!” and engage this story and ask if they still play. Then they ask me to play Beer Barrel (obviously the go to accordion song around here, kind of like the Sultans of Swing or Freebird of guitars). I do.

Mark Knoppfler has my respect.. and he has a good sense of
humor, not afraid to make fun of himself either..

did you know he was in the Traveling Wilbury's for awhile ?
and did an album and show with Chet Atkins ?

seek as musicians ? hey that ain't workin'
that's the way you do it..
just play your 'cordeen on that MTV

now a serious reply

it is my opinion founded on years of gigs, that even if we never managed
to be a Rock star or a skyrocket Vocalist with a sound man and pitch correction,
we are still seen as belonging to that elite group of the Musical iLLuminati

this is why we must carry ourselves as professionals too.. because to give that
to that average person who NEEDS it so badly.. needs to be able to be in the
presence of and noticed by even receiving the attention of one of those
higher beings (who somehow must to know the secret and things and.. well
just listen to the lyrics and you'll know why..) well, we do have to BE at least a
bit special, or cool, or at least freshly washed and clean clothes..

those people, even though few of you have that Psych Diploma,
need to touch the hem of your gown..

this is also why as Professionals AND as Men, Humans, we never take
advantage of the ones who are suffering and seek/need our help..
(there are plenty of willing and sentient Strawberry Fields for all of us..
money for nothin' and your chik's for free)

there once was a Woman, a strange kind of Woman,
the kind that get's written down in History..
her name was Nancy..

but i digress..

so these seekers who are attracted to us like moths to a flame,
'though we are not really qualified for it, somehow we can do a lot
of good for them just with kindness and a few minutes of our time

that is certainly one reason to do what we do.. many are called
few are chosen.. really BEING a Musician can mean something
well beyond the notes and skillz and instruments, even if we weren't
the ones who WROTE that song that is at the core of that person..

'nuff said

For me, never. I tried then quickly dropped facebook decades ago, never once looked at twitter, tictok or whatever else is out there. Friends can give me updates, ask questions, or suggest interesting things by email or text. I do read the news, with mental filters.
I get the most peace and joy from two things: creating something, and teaching.

I sincerely think that I had a bit of a loose screw somewhere. :D
Very early in life I learned about opinions and how important it was to take some seriously and others to not. I saw that most were not high on my personal priority list… lol

I wasn’t much of a leader, but I was never a follower… I did my best and was the most happy when I walked life to the beat of my own drums. If you spend your days beating your chest and proclaiming your importance to the world or if you base your self-value on the opinions of others, I will point you to mirror and show you a person that’s got to be unhappy and *perhaps* a bit misguided.

In many aspects, social media is the world’s cesspool. There is some good, but a lot of bad. I can count on exactly 2 fingers the reasons I need to visit Facebook, but countless times I saw reasons to close the page and move on… and I did.

My suggestion is an easy one… spend time doing things that make you happy and spend a little less time worrying about what others think. :)

Larry, I said it before, every time you leave social media, you seem to come back here. WE are getting the best part of that deal. :)
