Hi, bought a Roland FR-3x PA about 6 months ago, and registered it. Am going to be putting it on sale here soon and am not sure if anyone here knows if the warranty would be passed on to the next user? If not will get in touch with Roland. Prefer to ask here as more likely to get a straight answer from those with experience.

Thanks, Trevor

I think asking Roland is the clear route for selling - I wouldn't take a seller's word and would want to see something written from Roland if it were important to me + the answer may be more complicated than previously as people aren't fully certain what happened with Rolands 'structure' lately - eg Is Roland UK (Swansea, ennit?)responsible for warranty in the UK, if not is Roland Europe, or Roland Japan/International?

True, have sent off question to them, just wondered if anyone had any experience lately since 'adjustment'. Can always go back on the stores 1 yr warranty i suppose.

Will post answer when known as others may be interested.

Trevor

If the Roland dealer that sold you the 3x, properly notified Roland UK with the sale date and SER. # you and whomever you sell it to should have no problem with the remainder of the factory warranty. Check with Roland (U.K.) Tel. (01792) 702701

I would think its the accordion thats under guarantee, not the person owning it. I don't see any reason for the guarantee not being transferable.

Logic may make you think this but Roland also have to be aware that their warranty rules may have to differ in different jurisdictions.
Thus if an accordion is bought in the UK but sold on to a Danish buyer, what is the jurisdiction now, especially if one country had different rules?
Thus I can imagine it is a minefield and hence a clause in the warranty may (I say may) prohibit the transfer to a subsequent owner.

Is there a lawyer in the house?

It is important for buyers of used Rolands from private individuals to realise that the warranty is made to the original registered owner and is not transferable.

I can not guess whether, if a used Roland could be purchased from a Roland Dealer while still within its warranty period, transfer would be a possibility.
However as it has been suggested by Jim_D, its got to be a good bet...!!.

I'm no lawyer but I have noticed the phrase "this warranty does not affect your legal rights."
In UK this refers to the notion of "merchantable quality" and I believe an item costing >£2k would be expected to last more than a year.
I also think in Europe the general period that this applies is 2years but heard recently that it may be considered to be as much as 6 years.
(UK = Small Claims Court ??)
As the contract is with the original buyer I see no reason why that would transfer to a second owner unless purchased from a retailer - new contract .
All this subject to someone showing I don't know what I'm talking about.
(PS: I heard the new Retail Ombudsman here in the UK say that (surprise!) sales assistants are remarkably ill-informed about their liabilities and the buyers rights.)

As the item was bought in the uk, and is liable to be sold in uk, what you have posted is really not relevant to the question. It does not show that the warranty is for the original owner? The last remark may be true, but if so, does that discriminate against an individual or organisation not involved in the roland dealer network?

Can of worms, thought it would be a simple question, does this apply to other makes too? Have another accordion which has a 3 year RTB warranty from Allodi. Does that apply only to original buyer?

As you have very sensibly asked Rolands what the situation is in an earlier post, I look forward to hearing the result of your enquiry in due course.

Well the water gets really muddy when you stray from the actuality of the question, particularly on purchasing a used item in a private (ie not from a dealer) sale, where the 'acts' do not apply.

Definitive answer, pretty poor show if you ask me!

Free extended warranty like you didn't pay for it in the 1st place. You could always cheet and give the name of the 1st owner. But not good mojo at all.

OK. This is the "free extended warranty", how about the "bog standard" warranty?

That was the question in the email I resent today, be interesting to see response.

As first owner my warranty is until 2017, second owner... zip. Unless.

Well at least he is apologetic, good for you Dan.

Hi Trevor,

Thank you for getting back to me and apologies for the delayed reply.

Unfortunately both the manufacturer’s warranty and free extended warranty are both non-transferable I’m afraid.

I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Kind regards,

Dan

Well, will be putting it in the for sale section, but will refer to this thread. If someone buys it and has difficulty then would help of course.

Thanks Trevor - very honest & candid approach from you - can't say the same for Roland UK... disappointing. I would add I bought my FR3 (on here) over a year ago, it was 3 years old then, but near mint, and I've had no probs.. touch wood.

I bought a Dell SXP18 computer on eBay which was not working properly. Unknown to me, it was still under guarantee. I phoned Dell expecting to pay for the repair but they said it was under guarantee and replaced it with a new one and with a fresh guarantee which was unexpected. So I ended up with a new one for the price of a second hand one. Rolands small print conditions on guarantees are by comparison, disgraceful, even if resold in the same country a guarantee should be honoured.
