I should add - one reason i pursued accordion is to create more performing opportunities. I can walk in just about anywhere with accordion around my neck and be readily accepted. I find this accessibility tremendous asset: the sound of the instrument is well-liked and evocative, and the logistic convenience - portability, volume, etc - simply superb :b
The main reason I play accordion....melody, harmony, rhythm and portability....
And its a complete instrument - you dont need to depend on anyone else for accompaniment 8-)

Youve never heard of death by accordion?

Yes, I have. Every time I try a 6 or 7 button jump, 3 weeks, 2 days, 7 hours, 27 minutes and 13 seconds come off my life

Which is handy in my case, since theres eventually no one left around after I start playing.

 Know the feeling !

What i don't like:

-la valse d'Amelie (obviously nª1 in the list)
-people who play just the keyboard (Specially norteño players)
-Gabbanelli accordions (Or any accordion with sparkles and things, hate those abominations)
-Tall people playing a 48 bass

What i H A T E

-People who make accordion straps with the player's name on it (or jesus exist/god loves you/anything religious)
-In-Bellows designs
-People who use just 2 or 3 fingers to play (Called "picapollo" in my country)

My 63 self is tempted to record and post a video of me playing Amelie using just the right side of my Hohner Student 48... :D

The end of my little fingers are slightly too bent to play the bass buttons with any accuracy so bass = 3 fingers. But I do use all five in the right hand on my PA 8-)
Ive always assumed my little fingers arent straight because of playing the piano young. Who knows :?

Sebastian,

This guy, Joe Rossi, never had a lot of choice as he lost the ring finger of his right hand in WW2, and couldnt find it again! He does use his right thumb to make up for the finger he lost. He inspired me to keep playing after I lost the use of my ring and little finger on my right hand in a car accident. Took me three or four years to get the use of them back again, and I had to learn to use my thumb which I hadnt used previously. Its just as well I can play the guitar, as any hope I had of playing pro accordion were effectively finished.

I learnt to touch type on a manual typewriter at the age of 19 and see many people typing on their computers today using just 2 fingers (known as hunt and peck - a bit like picapollo !).
But I wouldnt decry it - some manage to type at a tremendous speed and with great accuracy using this method !

I HATE the "Clarinet Polka," and anything with a martial/military sound. Like Sousa stuff. Vile, simply vile. And I HATE some of the supposed classic accordion show-pieces, such as, "Flight of the Bumblebee." I LOVE the Malaguena as a piece of music, but I HATE the way most accordionists arrange and play it.

That will be all for the moment.

Wow, would you please tell us how you really feel about these things?

Im not in a hurry to listen to accordion renditions of Sousas marches, though Im a lifelong fan of the music in its natural form and have for many years played tuba in a band dedicated to that music. (Though yesterdays program was a special repertoire, practically all Italian marches - great stuff.) But I can imagine where accordion players got the idea, perhaps from the irresistible Under the Double Eagle.

Hes a really good player! but i didnt explain it well. In my country, some people use to play norteño style, with just 2 fingers (2 notes) and they use the same fingers all the time, to play in the scale of the norteño song. They also use to play with the nails, causing damage to the keyboard.
