but how does it attach on the opposite side, seen in the first picture? I take it with such a system you slide one side under some kind of fixed ledge, then close the other side and fasten with the rotating latches?

You would indeed slide the opposite side under a fixed ledge and then rotate the treble side to move the treble side down towards the bellows frame (on the side where the latches are. The first picture has the wrong angle to see whether there are indentations of some sort, and the second picture does not show the side of the bellows frame that would show the other part (the ledge). If these parts are missing then it is probably best to just forget about the mechanism and drill holes for bellow pins instead.
Ok, thanks for the encouragement. I am going to take a break from this. I think if possible I would like to keep it original, and try to figure out the latch and get that working. Ill remove my gasket work, and play with that a little bit. If I figure out anything I will post it here as always.
And Jim- if I cant maybe Ill have you take a look at it when ever I get out your way again. I am hoping maybe after the summer I will try. I will call you in the early fall and we can catch up and plan another visit.
