Hi everyone I have a note that is not sounding on my accordion keyboard. Sometimes it does, but the sound is not the full resonance of a normal note & slightly flat sounding. Would anyone have an idea of what this could be Does a reed need replacing?

Hi Chris,

Unfortunately it's hard to say without opening the accordion and taking a look.

The poor sounding could be related to a "leather" which has become curled and is not functioning properly. Or the reed tongue is not vibrating properly because it has become corroded, has a piece of dirt preventing such, or has bent out of position "voicing."

The flat sounding reed could be related to the issues mentioned above, or it could require tuning. Probably won't need replacing.

Anyway, impossible to say without a look see.

Good luck, also check accordionrevival.com for good info on repairs.

That said, tell us more! What songs do you love to play?

Thanks for your replay and help Tom will seek out a repair shop and let you know how it progresses

cheers.

chris

Most often when a note is not sounding it sounds in one bellow direction and not in the other direction. The cause is then most often a piece of dirt or dust that's blocking the reed. In a rare case it's a broken reed. In all these cases though the note always sounds in the one direction and never sounds in the other direction, and certainly not "flat". Seeking out a repairer is the best thing you can do.

That's a clever bit of web marketing by The Accordion Shop, Dingo. They're great people (have supplied me with two super accordions) but they're nowhere near Plymouth.

Hi Chris, and welcome to the forum. I know an excellent accordion repairer but he's in West Wales, which is also nowhere near Plymouth. However he's probably nearer to Plymouth than the Accordion Shop.
