Hello Fitzer, although I now live in France I used to live in Co.Clare and played a lot of Irish music, including on the Pipes. But now living in CBA land I have also taken up the instrument.
If you read music there is plenty of material about. I am curently working on three books of Augverne trad music which have been arranged for CBA... Im not sure they are comercially available, a friend got them for me from the creator, who is an accordeon teacher. This collection is not too difficult for a beginner like myself and makes a good primer for the more complex tunes and arrangements normally associated with French accordeon . Other than that I am taking a learn by ear approach too, even though one can find a teacher very easily here by enroling at the local conservatoire ... think it would cost less than 200 euros a year to get a one to one lesson each week.
For Chrismas my wife bought me La Belle Histiore de lAccordeon a 20 CD boxed set , nearly 24 hours of recordings by the great players of the past.. available on Amazon...
I envie you your retirement... wish I had more time to practice.... good luck, Geoff.
