Hello to all Box Players/Accordionists,
I have been a keen follower of this forum since it started and up until now had felt that as a Shand Morino player of some 60 years that most members would not really be interested in my choice of instrument
( BCC#ist as George Garside would say.).George & I often contribute to the Button Box Forum.
During the time in which I have followed this forum I have often thought I could answer / supply information to that inquiry or add further to a discussion.
The three row BCC# accordion is one of most rewarding instruments to play, you never stop learning. True it does have it's own foibles due to the keyboard layout.

Good man - you can get right into the discussion on playing with 'lift', and how to help beginners play better and feel better about their playing! :b

Welcome aboard

Welcome Roy, I don't think there are many of us on here so you may be providing a very large % increase!

Hello and another welcome from me. Always interesting to hear from BCC#-ers
As I said to George Garside of this forum recently The system puts me in mind of the motorcycle/sidecar combination, a wonderful hybrid that in some ways shouldnt exist, but which has some unique advantages and disadvantages, and which retains a small and loyal band of devotees! :D
Who would not admire a system where people can play like this!

Cheers
Tom

there are many other youtube vids of top hole BCC#ists. In no particular order of merit:

melodeonman52 ( Ian Cruikshanks)prolific number of youtubes including many of 'non Scottish ' tunes. his Swiss Landler March shoes the keyboard and fingering in detail from a camera? on right shoulder!

Graeme Mackay
John Hubard
Tony Kearney
Norman Mackay
Anatoly Isaev ( BCC#ing from Russia)

Also many fascinating youtubes and a couple of DVD's by (now 20 year old) Brandon Mcphee . Who is not only senior Scottish button box champion but also won the title senior Scottish accordion champion competing against piano and continental boxes.

There are of course many youtubes of Sir Jimmy Shand but manyof these are sound only taken from his multiplicity of recordings dating back to the early thirties. However the whole of the DVD Dancing with the Shands is on you tube , in which Jimmy Snr is playing with his sons band. The camera wonders about between band and dancers and shows glimpses of his keyboard but does show most of his fingering for the iconic bluebell polka. There is also a lovely track on it of Dir Jimmy playing a solo on a 2 row melodeon ( O' gin I were a barons heir)
This DVD may still be available from REL records

that list should do to satisfy anybodys curiosity!

george  ;)

Maybe I'm trying to teach my grannie to suck eggs but there's a free program called Freemake Video Convertor which allows you to copy youtube or other audio and/or video to dvd for your own use.
I've used it many times for things such as instructional youtube videos to dvd so I can watch it without having to have the laptop on. :)

Hi Roy Sorry I'm a bit tardy with my welcome, but be assured it is a warm one, welcome aboard.
I'm still fighting with PA... and often wish I'd restarted with buttons after a near 50 year break from PA.. .
